These were mentioned in another thread where someone asked for these, but I wanted a dedicated thread for my effort. I'm looking for a little feedback. Given that there isn't enough room on a poker sized playing card for all of the description and rules text, what do you guys think about the below? I'm looking to make something that gives the basic weapon and unit stats, plus provides a reminder as to what rules the unit has. It would be up to the player to either know the rules, or have the actual war scrolls handy to use as a reference. This is more for a "oh yeah, this guy has a special rule I need to remember to use" kind of thing... not to give you all of the text.

I'm looking for all points of feedback. Anything and everything.

And to be more clear, these would be more or less the exact same size as a Magic the Gathering card... or a standard poker playing card... whichever you're more familiar with.

My memory being what it is, I'd have to be going to the warscrolls all the time which would make the cards less useful. I'd prefer to see side A with the core stats, weapon stats, and keywords, and side B with the special rules (possibly abbreviated). For models with huge special rule sets, use 2 cards.

Just my 2c worth...

Yup, all of that.

A little too dark. The back ground is more dominant than the writing. The Dark Blue is hard to read as well. So I believe a lighter blue is needed and make the back ground less dominant.

Maybe a light grey/brownish colours instead or dark browns. Other than that, I think it's a great job.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

I've been working on something like this two. I wanted everything all on one side including descriptions and I found it too cluttered to do on a 2.5x3.5 inch card. I upped it 50% to a 3.75x5.25 inch card and it feels really nice on quality card stock. print 4 to a page.

I'm working on my own cards. The most important thing for mine is that I take away weapon stats and rule explanations that don't apply (for example troops with multiple weapon choices).

I'm going to go for mostly black on white (or grungy light grey) to make them easier to read from a distance too. I'll post some WIPs soon.

This thread could become a good place to bounce ideas off.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

How do we make our own cards? I don't know what to use or how. I have Microsoft Word. Do I use this? I don't know how it works but can I use it? If so how?

I have been using Pages on Mac with text boxes and doing fun things with images, borders, tables, gradients, shadows and transparency. This is a lower resolution version. Like I mentioned above I went with a larger format card and can get 4 to a page. If the OP has an objections I will happily take down the picture, as I don't want to rain on your parade.

Those are looking really nice. My only suggestion is that you could cut down the wordy bits to more concise sentences. If you want to keep the exact wording of the warscrolls that's fine, but alternatively you could use short snappy sentences to convey the rule more quickly and make them easier to read.

The most professional results will come from Adobe Photoshop or InDesign. MS word will be useable, but in my opinion MS PowerPoint will be better. Set the slide size to the dimensions of a card and away you go.

Once you have the cards designed, search for professional printing services.

I have no objection whatsoever. I really like these. Is it hard to read the text at that resolution?

I get your point, however I like having the exact wording. I just tightened the spacing at its all good =D

At that resolution? Yes. But I didn't want to make a giant jpeg nor upload the full resolution PDF. Once I finish them all I plan on making a nice easily printed PDF with the front you see here as well as a fancy back.

I think the color of the text and backround is making it harder to read. Really like the design of these, they are almost 100% perfect.

Maybe change the contrast of the greys and white text? Or go with lighter gray and black text?

Anyway to make these playing card sized? Otherwise with 4 to a page, would they fit in the large MTG commander sleeves?

Thank you Bottle, I never knew I had Power Point on my Mac. I see I do have it. Will fiddle with it when I have time and in the mood to tinker. Will see if I can figure it out.

@timewrightii those are really well done.

From a technical point, brilliant, on both accounts. I would make them exactly the same size as MTG cards so they can fit into sleeves. I'd have the back of the card with the rules written out and on the front just have the key words on it. As a player, you will know the rules after a few fights, so won't need to read the back and only require the keywords on the front to remind you.

Design wise, just need to get different text/color as well as get a more readable background image sorted.

Also, might be worth looking into how to use http://magicseteditor.sourceforge.net/ to make them up.

Just drafted up one based off a MTG card! Very rough, ideally I would have the stat line in the text made larger with just the abilities on show. On the back of the card I would write up what each does.

Cause there is only one size sleeve out there...

Hey all,

On the PPC blog you can now find unit cards for all the Stormcast Eternals. If you don't use the PPC points at all, you might still find the cards useful as they also contain all gameplay information on each unit.
They fit in 66x91mm sleeves.

I tried to upload a picture here, but it became really huge, so I'll just link to the blog page where you can find a card preview and all the Stormcast cards:

Cheers!

I'm trying to make custom cards on makeplayingcards.com.

Doing the 50% larger playing card type. I have the pictures nicely on the front of the cards but I can't seem to figure out a good way to get the rules on the back.

I thought about copy/pasting the warscrolls on it but it doesn't fit and when I try to resize them the words become unreadable.

Anyone have any ideas of what I could do? Are there maybe templates somewhere I could use?

Here's an example of a card http://www.makeplayingcards.com//AttachFiles/UserPhoto/temp/thumb/B138562D3C6D8DA51796BA4D063CB511_PVF1.jpg

The back needs a picture of 1797 x 1122 pixels (300DPI) with a max size of 32mb.

This has been my issue. Quite a few of the war scrolls just have too much text to fit on a card properly.

If you will excuse the necromancy, did anyone make any progress on doing a form for these? I'd really like some cards for my High Elves, but wanted to check whether someone had already done a form-fillable effort before I started the task!

I've been making MTG type cards with just the keywords on them since my friends and I are all familiar with them. What do you think?

I love it. I tried making cards so my daughter could understand and failed miserably. Care to share how you did it?

Now that this thread is live again I might as well chime in and say that I've continued my efforts in making unit cards for Age of Sigmar (on our blog).

So far we have unit cards for the following factions:

ORDER
The Empire
Stormcast Eternals
Dispossessed
Ironweld Arsenal
Sylvaneth

CHAOS
Daemons of Chaos
Khorne Bloodbound
Nurgle Rotbringers
Skaven Masterclan

DEATH
Beasts of the Grave
Deathlords
Deathmages & Deadwalkers
Deathrattle
Flesh-Eater Courts
Nighthaunt
Soul Blight
Vampire Counts Legacy Units

DESTRUCTION
-

MERCENARIES
Fyreslayers

Next up is Skaven Clan Moulder, but after that I'm very open to suggestions as for what factions to make.

Cheers!

I did a simple excel sheet. Made mine larger to fit old time baseball card sleeves, larger then normal baseball cards. Stats on the front, abilities on the back. Not fancy but work great. I still have to clean up the borders and pick a font but used these test cards and they were great.
