I'm participating in a 1850 point tournament my group is organizing, and the army composition is CAD + Allied Detachment/Officio Assassinorum/Oathsworn Detachment - with the three latter being optional.

There are some other tournament comp limitations but I won't go through all of them here ( common stuff like nerfed Invisibility and Rerollable 2+, making Maelstrom of War more sensible. )

Now the question I am interested to hear opinions and pointers about is whether I should pick an Allied Detachment of Tigurius & Centurions & Drop Pod or a Culexus Assassin in a Drop Pod. The rest of my army is most likely White Scars with a lot of bikes, possibly Smashbane, with some fire support.

Here's the pros and cons of each choice that I've thought about:

Tigurius & Centurions
+ Powerful Alpha Strike
+ Powerful ranged damage
+ Multiuse
+ Nigh guaranteed invisibility
- Relatively high points cost, especially if I have CS+Smashbane
- Vulnerable to a Culexus someone could bring
- Easy to tarpit and shutdown
- Daemons, which are powerful even with comps don't care about these guys too much

Culexus
+Cheaper option
+A decent troublemaker against Daemons who are fairly strong even when comped
+Can function as a harrassment unit even if there are no Psykers
+Shuts down the Psychic Deathstar which can be encountered in the Tournament
-Usefulness goes down quite a bit when there are no Psykers
-Potentially an easy kill with certain units and combos

Note: I'm not interested in a third option, I made the thread to contemplate pointers and to hear which people would pick, and why.

I think you'll have more success with the mini centstar (mini because no Draigo for tank/gate)
Mostly because it has a significant threat range from wherever you droppod it as well as being better against more opponents.
Also it draws attention from your bikes and command squad which allows them to advance and then wreck more face imo

The pros of the assassin is that it gives you more points to beef up the rest of the army which could help, it can actually tie up / tar pit a troublesome squad on its own, and it can potentially win you the game against any psychic stars out there.

I know you said you didn't want any alternatives but wth maybe you'll consider this lol
You could simply put a level one Libby in a pod with three cents and roll divination either for lucky roll of perfect timing or just pick prescience... This saves you 100 points from tiggy and a detachment slot because the cents and pod and Libby can be from your bike cad
With this 100 points and an additional 75 more trimmed from something else you could run the assassin and pod also
Basically you get both with very few sacrifices... Food for thought and my two cents (well three cents in a pod but you get it lol)

Hey mate, and thanks for your feedback.

I'll have to take this into consideration, altough losing the nigh guaranteed invisibility worries me. It's true however that the "ministar" -is useful against more enemies than the Callidus is on average.

I play a true centstar and honestly the best defense isn't even invisibility but gate of infinity because even invisibility can drop to lots of shots. I'm not saying it's not an amazing power but if you can have both the assassin and a well dropped mini centstar then you can really do some damage. Best of luck to you buddy.
