My friend and I are thinking of trying something different to mix it up a bit. I came up with the idea of running a DOW style play with actual 40k rules. Some of the things I've come up with are:
- an hq building is required and it would have X number of hull points (thinking maybe 15 or so...play testing would be needed)
- point limit would need to be around 750 to match the game's allowable 100 points of troops/vehicles (low point count would keep the game moving as well)
- you need a leader but no FOC is required, field what you want for the points
- if your unit gets killed, you may replace it or drop in a new unit next turn as long as the point limit isn't exceeded
- maybe hit and run USR for every unit as on pc they weren't lockable in combat
- I know it was an older edition rule but maybe add shooting into hand to hand to help your unit out
- falling back would allow you to return your unit back to the hq, say a 4d6 retreat run, and on the turn after they return to the hq they can be reinforced back to full capacity
- standard wargear only, no relics on your leader
- repairable hq as in the game, but when it's last hull point is removed, game over
I know it's missing some things to make the cross-over but I can't figure it out. Do you guys and gals think it's a good idea? Or leave the pc game alone? Any thoughts on things to add or remove? Not sure where the balance would be for an AV value of the hq either. Any thoughts or feedback would great!

I had thought of something like this, main thing I had thought of was something emulating how you can build new units and you get upgrades for them on the field and such, which would be very interesting but difficult to implement.

Don't believe me? It's all in the numbers.

Why not have a set point limit thats the initial force. Scatter objectives throughout the table. Each objective adds say 5-10% pts for next turns reinforcements. To claim a objective the unit cannot have shot in the previous turn (when they made base contact).
Dont use variable game length instead go until one player concedes or a base/ warlord is destroyed.
Allow fortifications to be deployed around claimed objectives. Maybe even make some custom ones like turrets or forward bases that let units deepstirke next to them without scatter.
Just spitballin some ideas maybe once you get a good rule set post it in proposed rules I would love to play a game style like this and will probably work on my own version.

Those are some good ideas. I'd like to have it where the base needs to be destroyed as it'll be a good challenge to navigate the table and get to it. Adding points every turn may increase the turn length and the idea is to keep the turns fast and moving so you can actually destroy the base. I think if you run too many points it may bog down the game. I do like the idea of spawning items on the table like the chaos tower or the marine heavy bolter sentry turret. Make it come out of the overall points though and needs to be in base contact with the spawner.

Im not sure about the no shooting the previous turn. sounds like it could really slow things down. What about dow2 style requisition points. starts off as kill points with lots of objective boxes that you hold and remove at the end of turn. spend requisition points to buy upgrades or new unit at a base camp or even something like artillery strikes or whatever. at the beginning of turn. If the enemy is contesting the objective then you cannot buy stuff. with variable game length.
