So i was messing around on the bolter and chainsword painter and made this...

I think it looks really royal and intimidating. I was also looking around at different color schemes for ideas and was looking at the dark angels army. There are multiple color schemes revolving around their central dark green vibe. Do you use multiple schemes in one army? (Say your main army is white and green but all your fast attack units are blue and black)

I like it, but I think it needs more red to bring it up to like 50/50 with the black Not sure where you'd put it though is the only problem.

The problem with this is that it's very very easy to get wrong and look like an unpainted army.

And frankly if these are your standard troops, the amount of time you'd need to spend to get black highlighted and right is going to be a massive timesink.
I would consider swapping to an extremely dark blue or even blackish purple to work with the red.

i got inspiration from the black templars, my favorite loyalist faction. I guess I just changed the white to red and added a gold trim.

I don't know if that would be good for every unit like you said so that's why i am wondering about maybe having certain units specific colors, to have a more varied army color. Then again i don't want it to look like i just through colors together.

It's actually not too unlike my chapter's scheme. Albeit yours has more gold. I only used gold on the more ornate shoulder pads (the bottom right guy here).....

Spoiler:

So yeah, I like it.

I say go for it. Do a test model at least, the colours work well together.

Yeah, I think Alan has shown the only way it is going to work - the black is really a grey to give proper definition and avoid the problems that buttery has pointed out.

I actually really like the look of that now, do it

I actually use almost this exact color scheme, but I use robes to break the black.

I'd suggest throw some red on the knee caps, and maybe the hands...just to help distinguish it on the table more..and maybe also some lighter tones like grey for the soft armor in the exposed joints.

Nearly my colour scheme too, although mine has more purple

H.B.M.C.- The end hath come! From now on armies will only consist of Astorath, Land Speeder Storms and Soul Grinders!

Black and white are extremely hard to paint. The reason why I abandoned my plans for black templars haha.

I had a ravenwing army and changed all the vehicles to caliban green so I didn't need to paint black, I like the ideas given and just a bit of battle damage goes a long way to change it from a seemingly unpainted army to a battleworn stealthy regiment.

You could put the squad marking on the right kneepad like Blood Angels do to break up the black. Also stuff like pouches and holsters and such will help as well.

It looks really bland, and like there's not much to break up the colors. Painting up the joints and wires in a gun metal color would help a lot, as would painting a knee pad in red.
