I've found in games where everything is just going my way and my opponent just cant hit/wound or is generally unlucky on dice rolls, I end up feeling quite bad.

To the point where i purposely make mistakes or play not to the mission in an attempt to even the game up. This has actually happened fairly often of late, not because I play well more because my opponents love to roll 1's.

Does anyone else find they do this or has this happen to them?

Absolutely.

BUT I learned the hard way that the Adepticon Friendly isn't exactly as friendly as one would assume.

I played a pod list and would hold back on my alpha strike if I had the possibility of tabling the opponent turn 1.

Last game of the friendly I seized and my opponent was bummed out so I said I'll reroll, if I get another 6 I'll keep it, otherwise you can go first (it was for the mission we were doing). I rolled another 6 and he actually asked to see my dice.

If luck is just going my way, I’ll often go into high risk/high reward mode. Or even high risk/moderate reward. I’m not going to throw the game, but I do tend to go for more cinematic moves. It might not be the most tactically sensible option, but tends to make the game more entertaining. Also if I see minor victories for my opponent, I try not to take them away.

But yah, sometimes you just need to cringe and say “Sorry” when the dice come up. Fickle little buggers. And your turn might be next.

Basically what I do, I hate just steam rolling the opponent (be it a mismatch in skill/lists or luck) but I usually start playing loose (not spreading models out more, quick moving but erring on the side of too short, etc) and risky to try and make things a bit more interesting for the opponent. My Warboss gets very challenge happy when things are going well for the Orks.

I had this happen last night. Won my game on the top of turn 2. Not only did I table him, but I was winning 10-0.

I had first blood, warlord and line breaker in BGNT.

Only game I remember doing that in was my Nids against Necrons. Lone Carnifex shot down a Doom Scythe in a turn, then a Flyrant shot down another the following turn. Each shooting phase took away 5+ models per 12 shots. There was just none of that fabled durability for my opponent and I didn't feel bad at all.

I did tone done my usual 'I didn't get boned by the dice' celebrations though.

I definitely do. Games like that just aren't fun, and I get a bit irked and uncomfortable by the frustration it causes in my opponent.

I've had several games like that with the new Necron codex and normally don't play Necrons nowadays because of the proclivity for massive amounts of rerolls, which make it more probable for an"everything goes your way" type of game to unfold.

I do feel bad. I won't throw the game.

If I am in a clearly-superior position and it's a friendly game, I might let rules interpretations I dont agree with slide, or not argue them as long as I might otherwise, but that's as gracious as I'm liable to get.

If, however, my opponent is new, I will ask them if they'd like my advice. (And shut my cakehole if they don't.) I always like it when people who beat me tell me how I could have won.

Yes. Lasy game was 1500 against a buddy. His orks versus my BAs with 2 allied SM formations, Librarius Conclave & Suppression Force. I fracking rolled him! I tabled him by turn 4. I only lost 5 marines.

I felt awful. I tried after the game to offer some advice, he took it well but i still felt like a tool.

I don't, but that's currently because I have one major opponent, and I have never beaten him. I almost never get good rolls, but when I do, my Templars eat everything in sight.

If I have a clear advantage, I'll rule in favor of the opponent. Unless my opponent is a douche or TFG, in which case, I'll crush him as hard an d harsh as possible.

...The douches I know deserve it. It's not just an "I find you annoying" moment.

No, I don't feel bad.
I simply enjoy it - because it sure doesn't happen that often.

No. But to be honest I can't remember the last time anything went in my way this edition.

I used to do it a lot with my tau before 7th rolled in, I eventually stopped playing them and picked up white scars.... when I got good with them, I picked up dark eldar. Those wins felt the best and most rewarding.

I much rather prefer a close game. Blow outs, especially because of poor dice rolling (rather than bad tactical decisions) are no fun.

The dice are fickle things, and if they're for you, then you can be the most terrible player in the world and still pull out astounding victories, while if they're against you it doesn't matter how much skill and experience you have, you're going to lose.

When the dice go very much your way hardcore, it's nice to an extent, but if it's so out of what that the game is decided because of it, it can definitely make the game less fun.

It happened a few times, even thouhg i play Khorne CSM in 6th and KDK now.

But i always try to be a good sport and buy the guy a beer( i always bring nice strong beers when i can, since, well i'm Belgian, and live in Belgium, would be a waste not to taste all those wonderfull beers).

Now while i will be a bit more lax, i will not make mistakes on purpose or something, IMO, and its just my opinion, its insulting, a bit like " Oh, you can't play if i don't let you win?", the kind of thing that i would be mad about if it where me.

What i do if the game ends by turn 2 or 3, i offer the rematch and see how things turns out.

I'm usually on the other end, so no, I just take it as karma finally catching up with me...

Seriously, though, I have had a couple of games where it felt just a little bit wrong. One of my games at Adepticon last year was a victory due to Mysterious Terrain eating at least half of my opponent's army... was impossible to not feel bad for the guy.

And I had another tournament game where for the first half of the game my Long Fangs kept rolling Hit after Hit on their scatter dice... My opponent said afterwards he was getting very close to calling a judge over to check my dice until I finally actually missed one...

It's a dice game, and sometimes these things just happen... but yes, it does sometimes feel a little bit cheaty when things keep going too well...

Oh man, I remember a game in 5E. Was my CSM's vs SM's. I had like 6 oblits and twelve terminators, all deepstriking without scatter onto forty CSM's in Rhino's backed up by a flying DP, while my opponent had Vulkan, a coiuple dozen marines, like one naked autocannon Predator, a TFC, and I think a unit of scouts at 1850.

On paper I was going to just absolutely crush this guy, and we both knew it.

Then I couldn't roll anything higher than a 2 for practically the whole game. Reserve rolls, Charge distances over terrain, meltaguns, etc. Every critical and half-way important roll came up in favor of my opponent and he just walked all over me and picked my army apart peicemeal as a result.

First scenario day I attended (and my first 40k games ever), we played a White Dwarf scenario that significantly favored the defender. I ended up playing defender in each match, even though I offered to take the opposite role ("No, you play defender again. I wanna see if you the attacker can win.") Considering I haven't won a match since, it evened out, and in my next match I should have a 50/50 chance to win.
