Quick question. Plague marines have toughness 5 basic. They also come with mark of nurgle which gives them +1 toughness. Does this mean they are toughness 6 ? Sorry if this is a Noob question I amnew to chaos .

From 'Marks of Chaos' on page 30 of Codex Chaos Space Marines, second paragraph:

When a Mark of Chaos is listed in a unit's special rules, its effects will have already been taken into account in its profile, where applicable.

'It is a source of constant consternation that my opponents
cannot correlate their innate inferiority with their inevitable
defeat. It would seem that stupidity is as eternal as war.'

Troops which already have a mark of chaos have the mark included in their profile. For example:
Plague Marines- T4 by default, T5 with MoN
Noise Marines- I4 by default, I5 with MoS
Thousand Sons- 5++ by default, 4++ with MoT

if they did not have that rule rubric marines would be a lot more appealing

Why? Invulnerable saves are not part of the profile nor does it state anywhere that Rubric marines have a 4++ so this rule literally makes no difference to them at all.

Oh, by the Emperor's rotting skull, you know what he meant. Back off. And is there a figurative form of "makes no difference at all"? Your "literally" is erroneous.

As previously stated, CSM bikers with mark of nurgle can really tank damage (not that plague marines aren't good too).

Oh, by the Emperor's rotting skull, you know what he meant.
... I didn't. I've been patiently waiting for Scorp to explain what he meant - I can see the obvious benefit of not knowing this rule on Plaguies and Noisies, but the benefit to Rubrics eludes me.

Jeez. He meant that it would be great if the save was improved. And now lets drop that line of thought, it's pointless. The original question was answered.

The save is improved. They start with an Aura of Dark Majesty for a 5++ and have mark of Tzeentch which makes that a 4++. Seriously how does this rule make any difference to Rubric marines?

The jokingly made statement asked for a further improved save from the "4++" presented, making it a "3++". Yes, we get that the rules do not allow for that - which was the joke.

What 4++ presented? That is the point made earlier. No where does it state that Rubric Marines have a 4++. So how would removing the rule many ANY difference to Rubric marines at all?

The original thought probably didn't go so far into detail as to think "gee within the rules, it seems that adding to the Rubric Marines invulnerable saves wouldn't really make any sense, but what if the wording was such that it would?" and more along the lines of "it would be cool if Rubrics got a 3++ save".

That's the point. You are putting a lot more emphasis on the rules than the original thought even had.

Well sorry for not getting the joke then, always a bit difficult in a purely text-based conversation.

It's alright. I only got it because I've spent an inordinate amount of time flipping through the Chaos Codex hoping some sort of new workable combination would present itself to me. Alas I am empty handed.
