Anyone else ever feel this?

As much as I hate them I finally went and dropped 45$ for one of those mek gunz. I'm looking at the assembly instructions and see all four options and understand completely that the Traktor Kannon or KMK would probably be the most useful. But man, I don't want to choose :p

Cause it's 45$ and I feel like I can never go back and there is this part of me that hates spare parts even though it's what orkz do.

I am the kinda ork that takes his own washing machine apart, puts new bearings in it, then puts it back together, and it still works.

Try to magnetize them to swap out parts or even if you can't then just say "this is a (mek gun type)". Also use your spare parts to scratch build your own weapons. A good coat of paint, attention to detail, and lots of bits can make anything presentable (especially orky stuff).

With 45 dollars per gun... you may as well make multiple guns out of bits or other products and not have to worry as much. I reckon is a 45 dollar US budget you could make at least 3 guns.

This is common across many armies, and is why magnets are so popular. Slap in a magnet and if things change, swap it out. If there's bits, magnetize as much as you can so you can rebuild later. I have a Tyranid Warrior that has something like 14 magnets on it so it can change weapons and be a Tyranid Prime on the exceedingly rare times I need to have one. It's not a big model or cost nearly as much as a Mek Gun, but some idea.

I sometimes spend too long over thinking how to magnetize something. Currently I am building 6 land speeders with all the options magnetized. The typhoon missile launchers can be a pain, but I finally settled on how to do it.

I don't like to start actually building a model until I have it all figured out as to exactly how it will go together.

I had my harridan sat there for 3 weeks before I'd even attempt to assemble it.

I have a hierophant on the way and I know it will take tons of assembly, but better safe than sorry.

Old metal units give me nightmares about assembly sometimes, Hive Guard, Killakans, Eldar WLs, Tyrants.

If it doesn't magnetise easily, kitbash with other models to get as many weapons built as you need.
The IG heavy weapon teams can be mixed to have missile launchers as shoulder-mounted, etc.

I magnetize most options these days, so not a lot of anxiety over that.

Whenever I pick up a knife to do some conversion work, I do fret a bit. Or use a rare/special bit. I want it to look right, and sometimes my skills fall just a little short.

It’s an expensive hobby. You don’t want to mess up a kit. Just take it slow, and dryfit before glueing etc.

Yea, I've had a Kytan for a week and half and all I've done is clean the resin. There's not even that much resin because it's half Lord of Skulls....

I can't say I have this anymore. Unless it is a model with lots of magnetizing (like a knight or something) I don't worry about it.

I might have had some worry if I was making TWC and didn't magnetize. Same with terminators. That is the joy of magnets though. That $50 box of terminators can have any weapons I own!

Hell, my dreadnoughts can be equipped with space marine arms because the polarity on the magnets is aligned!

I magnetised a manticore so it could also be used as a deathstrike missile launcher. That was a massive ball-ache to do and I ended up selling it because it didn't fit in with the team of my army

“Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."
