Hi all,

Here are some conversions I've done of various Deadzone models. They are unpainted, and will remain so for quite awhile, I imagine. Deadzone was my first major outing with conversions. Hope you enjoy them.

Plague Enforcer Squad. From left to right, #2 and #5 had face transplants. Used Mantic KOW zombies for those. #2 also had his restic chest armor carved away and hollowed out, then sculpted a chest beneath the peeling armor remaining. A case where PVC was easier to pull off the effect than HIPS would have been. (In HIPS, I imagine you'd have to sculpt the peeling armor on with putty or something.)

Nameless 2nd Generation Plague. Used a great head from a Dreadball Nameless figure, then added classic old-school Genestealer arms for that "gotcha" effect.

Plague 2nd Generation Gunner. Made using the same base model as the one used for the leaping Nameless figure above. It converts well to a kneeling position if you bend the foot.
The arms are tyranid, but the shoulder pads are original to the 2nd Gen model. I cut them off, hollowed them out, and put them on the tryanid arms to smooth out the transition.

2nd Gen Plague conversion. Legs can easily be adjusted to a striding forward pose with hot water (not so easily visible in this shot, unfortunately), which I find improves the model from its standard "jumping jack" position even if it's the only change you make.

Converted Ripper vs. two converted Plague 2nd Gens. Used a Sedition Wars Quasimodo Strain head on the 2nd Gen on the left. Love that head.

2nd Gen Plague conversion vs. Enforcer w/ heavy weapon conversion.

Converted Ripper suit - arms resculpted to point at a target, not the sky.

Easy 1st Gen Plague conversion. (Original on the left, conversion on the right.) A bit of hot water, a little resculpting and repositioning makes for nice variety. Apparently my buddy Coops / Sycorax did pretty much the same alternate pose on his 1st Gen.

Those are amazing.

I'm tempted to tear open your chest and devour your heart so that I might absorb your converting skills. And I mean that as a compliment.

Also, I'm hungry.

As others have said, brilliant stuff. Great use of parts from a number of other ranges and some great posing and sculpting.

The Plague Enforcer squad is my favourite, they look like resin masters ready for production.

Thank you Thraxas, that's quite a compliment, and thanks to Paradigm as well. And a third thanks to angelofvengeance for the kind words, and for sharing your work. I particularly like what you did with the Plague Strider cockpit - that's much more interesting and imaginative than the unusually small Plague pilot you get standard. What sort of putty did you use for the white tentacle? Milliput? Any reason why you used a different putty than the green stuff you did the other tentacles with? I'm still learning about the different puttys and their properties and have only used green and brown stuff so far, so it's useful to hear why people use different ones in different cases. And have you thought about having more tentacles erupting from other parts of the Strider, as if the organic pilot has merged with the machine? Your core concept there is so cool that I'd love to see you take it further. I'm glad to see it, as I've never really been happy with the idea that Plague vehicles are just rusty, junky versions of Corporation / Rebs ones. That works with the fluff, but I'm much more into the techno-organic fusion you see in Sedition Wars models. For all the bashing that game got, a lot of beautifully, hideously imaginative alien models came out of it.

Oh, and I saw and liked your Plague 2nd Gen before somewhere too, although I don't think I commented at the time. And you didn't just put on a new and better head, you changed its angle. It's funny how a little shift of the head, so the model is looking up, transforms the entire pose from pointlessly studying dirt to looking natural and predatory. It just makes the whole model click. Like you, I suspect, I'm much happier with the 2nd and 3rd Gen models when they have normal-sized heads. (I had actually set aside one of the CSM space marine heads that you used - the blindfolded one - for a future Plague conversion.)

Just don't throw away those tiny 3rd Gen / 2nd Gen pinheads - I've found that they're very useful if you re-purpose them. 2nd Gen heads are perfectly sized for 3rd Gen troopers and make them look a lot more like the troopers on the original Deadzone box art, and 3rd Gen heads are so small that they're perfect for making multi-headed 3rd Gen trooper mutants. By extension, a Plague 1st Gen head would probably look great on a 2nd Gen, but I like that head on the original figure too much to swap it out, and I don't have any spares left to experiment with. I have made some 3rd Gens with 2nd Gen heads that I like a lot, as well as one multi-headed 3rd Gen mutant, and I could put up photos of those in about two weeks if you're interested. Unfortunately, I'm working to meet a tight deadline right now and won't be able to photograph them sooner.

Speaking of said deadline - back to the word processor for me. Sigh.
