Hey mates. Looking to go a different direction and start working on a BT Space Marine Army once again, as not only where they my first Space Marine Chapter, I have always been a huge fan of there fluff and how they look on the table-top. With that being said, while I know the new Space Marine Codex is out, I am still not 100% on how effective the new Black Templars are in this edition so any feedback you mates can give me I would greatly appreciate it. Basically:

* Are BT's a Land Raider/Mechanized Army or do more people op for the Black Tide list that was popular in the past?

* Any Characters worth taking? Which ones are not worth Taking?

* Tactics or tips that make BT's more competitive in this edition?

Besides that, this is how I was planning on building my BT models. Will be using the Sanguinary Guard Bolters & CCW's, so that way my Templars will always look like to be on the attack, and I think it fits well with there fluff and I doubt it will cause any issues. Besides that, being a bit OCD when it comes to how my models look, I was debating on giving all my Templars the same Front Torso with the Laurels and Skull on it, but do you think I would be better off with the Aquila across the whole Front Torso or does this one stand out nicely? as it is. Other then that, should I paint the front torso Laurels/Aquila White or do you think a dark Gold would be more appropriate?

WB! I don't play Templars, but I honestly think the Emperor's Champion is pretty cool. If ever you are going to take a Captain, take him instead. Put him with a CC Command Squad and wreck face!

There is one major downfall of the BT, and that is that they can't really gain much benefit from the Gladius Strike Force, since Crusader Squads have no place in it.

Crusader Squads in Land Raider Redeemers is a popular tactic. Stuff as many dudes as you can in there. Put the squishy guys in the front. You want one of them to die so you can buff the whole squad.

I'm aware of that mate, but currently I am building a Drop Pod list and if needed, I plan to utilize other Chapter Tactics/Rules to go with that as well as the Black Templars one. Currently my top options are Imperial Fists, Blood Angels, Space Wolves, and the Salamanders, as well as one of the FW Chapters but forgot the name.

That being said, anyone have any experience running Black Templars in Drop Pods? Apparently according to a few people, it is a lot more effective then most people think.

Talk to your local gaming group. Mine allows for crusaders to count as tacticals for formation purposes

I have three drop pods that I pull out once in a while. I usually put a combi-melta and/or combi-plasma sternguard squad in 1 or two of them. Go for the tanks or MCs. Also, I get my drop pod sitting next to an objective from time to time, so they have to deal with it or I can score some cheap objective points.

As for putting tacticals or crusader squads, they don't do much I'm afraid. The crusaders get shot to death before they can do much assaulting, and the tacticals aren't very well armed for any kind of alpha strike shooting.
