In a friendly 7th ed game where everyone is fine with it. Would you have a problem if I used Marbo as a data slate (copy and paste rules from 5th)?
Would you say his relative power has not changed at all?

I can't see anything broken myself but just wanted to throw that out there. See what others think.

From a rules question standpoint, I think you answered this part of your question yourself.

The rest should be directed towards 40K general or proposed rules.

Are you a Wolf, a Sheep, or a Hound?

You're going to need to talk to your opponents about this. From a rules standpoint, the answer is simply no.

We can't really give any guidance as your opponents will vary from people who rigidly follow the rules as written and play only with fully painted armies to people who have no problem using a roll of toilet paper as a drop pod. Some people will be OK with Marbo and some won't. I always found him to be super annoying.

Incidentally, my normal response to this sort of question is to say that everything has to be WYSIWYG and that you can only draw from one Codex. In other words, if you want to use Marbo, you need the actual Marbo mini AND you can't use the new Codex for anything. You get all of your units and stats from the old Imperial Guards Codex. Mixing and matching tends to create problems and confusion.

Honestly, with the amount of interceptor and anti-deep strike stuff available in 7th (thanks in part to armies that rely on Alpha or Beta strikes from reserve), Marbo would probably have a rough time.

But as others have said, the rules simply do not allow him to be 'ported' to 7th legally. There's nothing to say you can't create a homebrew unit (using similar rules to the 5th edition Marbo) and request your opponent's permission to use, however.

For friendly games, I'd say the rule of fluffy and cool would support you (especially if your army is Catachan themed), but there's a very slim (if any) chance you'll be allowed to play him in any tournaments or serious games.

I'm hoping he'll be back in the next edition. Or, who knows, maybe they'll pull an 'Adeptus Mechanicus' and split up Cadian, Catachan, Vostroyan, Elysian, Mordian, Death Korps (etc.) into their own codices...?

Thanks for the input guys.
Hi MODs. I think I have maybe posted in the wrong place. Could you move this to the correct section if I have posted in the wrong place. Sorry for that.

Yeah I totally get the fact that it is not in any way legal to take a unit from a 5th ed codex while taking the rest from a 6th-7th ed codex, not tournament legal, both people would have to agree, etc.
Maybe my question was badly worded. The question assumes a Beer and pretzels game where my opponent, like myself is a little miffed at the disappearance of Marbo and is fine with me using him as if he was part of the 6th-7th ed codex.

With all that taken into account. I was trying to get other people’s opinions on the units power relative to the newer codex and the 7th ed rules in general if I did a straight copy n’ paste of the rules. Would he now be too OP or UP? What would you change to bring him in line with the current game?

I’m just curious what the Dakkanoughts think

DogOfWar- You mention the problem with interceptor, which is a fair point however. ‘He’s behind you’ is not actually a deepstrike. Maybe I miss something in the interceptor rules. At work right now so no book with me.

Cheers Vim
