Hi All,

My name is Ben Snyder and this is my Dakka painting log and my first thread on Dakka Dakka. Thanks for having me. My current project is the Adeptus Mechanicus Skitarii box. This box is one of my favorite that GW has put out recently. My plan is to do a pretty basic paint job and remain true to the box art. I think am going Vanguard even though I think the Rangers look cooler. Hopefully those ranger heads will find their way to some chaos cultist conversions some day. Okay, time to get snipping.

I take commissions, PM me if you are interested http://www.demihumanpaints.com/

The kit is pretty fun. Lot's of different poses for a GW box and tons of extra goodies. I haven't assembled plastic minis for a while and I forgot how much mold line scraping there is. There wasn't any slipping or other casting issues but it was a few hours to get them all put together. I decided to go with Rangers instead of Vanguard. I just like the look better.

I did a small bit of conversion work to give the Alpha his pose with his rifle in the air and one ranger taking a knee. For the alpha I just had to swap the front half of the rifle and on the ranger I had to do some really simple sculpting to make his coat look like it's folded under him.

The back half of the vanguard radium carbine and the ranger galvanic rifle are the same so it was easy steal the other up pointing arm. I had to cut it carefully and then used Plastruct plastic weld to glue it up. I could have done it with super glue too but then I would have had to pin it and probably do some green stuff. The plastic cement softens the plastic enough that with a good joint there is no gap.

Thanks Evildrcheese!

I primed these guys today. I used my old Paasche VL airbrush. I start with black primer and just add drops of white to get a zenithal effect. Pretty basic. You can see some different stages in the picture.

I also added some lava rocks and crackle medium to the base to get a nice Martian feel. My mars had water

Got some color on le Skitarii. They are proving pretty easy to paint so far although I could have left the back packs off until after I painted the cloaks.

Some one left a Knight Titan leg on the table. Maybe I should incorporate it some how...

Hey guys I threw some picture up in the gallery, Holidays were a little hectic but I did get some stuff finished. My Current project is pretty Dakka worth I think. Some Death Korps Heavy Stubbers.

The FW stuff is really neat but man these guys were a bear to put together. I mean I get that it's supposed to be like advanced modeling, but nothing is fitted for you. Every single joint has to be basically sculpted and pinned. I take that back, the guns go together pretty easy once you puzzle it out, And of course I was short some rights and got extra lefts, no biggy as there were a couple of extra goodies and hands to make it all work, but quite an adventure. How do you guys like my sand bags? I am hoping to do some fun very small water effects in the boot prints and ruts I sculpted in the "mud".

Here's a pic of the boot print:
