the other day i saw a worst model topic.

I'm curious to peoples opinions of models that are fairly old but still look good

for me Inquisitor Karamazov still looks amazing despite being over a decade old.

Mordian Lieutenant. His cuirass and shoulderpads are a joy to paint. the chunky but well proportioned detail on the rest of him just makes it a really fun sculpt.

The retired Diaz metal Daemonettes are a gorgeous example of delicate sculpting done right, and put me in mind of the finely figured Kev White female minis from Hasslefree (and not because you can see their cheeky bums on a few).

Diaz daemonettes probably take the prize.

I think the Tantalus is pretty old.

The current Howling Banshe sculpts are old as dirt, aren't they? They look pretty sweet.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

The old Mars-pattern superheavies. They can be a pain to build, but they're so much better looking than the newer plastic kit. It's too bad GW insisted on a major redesign instead of just making a direct translation to plastic like they did with some of the other FW stuff (Piranha/Sky Ray, Valkyrie, etc).

Also, the ancient FW terrain is just beautiful compared to the ugly Citadel™ Wall™ Of™ Skulls™ stuff we get now. I can understand the business reasons behind the decision, but we definitely lost something when GW let it all go OOP.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Nope. Banshees have had a new model in just about every edition. I think the current sculpts were released in 5th, although they were a deliberate throwback to 2nd edition styling.

The bog standard Ork Boy kit (mostly) dates back to 3rd edition - and they're still a joy to work with.

Space Marine Dreadnoughts are lacking in posability, but still look sexy on the table.

And I would agree on the Assassins... they're getting up towards being the oldest still-available 40K models, and they still look pretty awesome.

Battle Sisters may have their flaws to some people's minds, but this is still one if the nicest models GW has ever produced and it's pushing seventeen years old.

Ork Boys are still one of my favorite kits. I hate the direction that the newer elite orks have gone with bolting scrap to themselves. Its pretty much gone too far.

On that note, I still love the Ghazghkull model. Its a great looking mega armored boss.

The hammerhead is still the most sexy tank on the table top and its 4 editions old now.

I think several of the CSM SCs still look pretty decent considering how old they are, Abaddon in particular holds up well even though he is on the shorter side these days.

On moon miranda.

Most things I think hold up ok over time. Even some of the older stuff that's been replaced still has its own charm, I still really like the old metal Bloodthirster, it's cartooniness really added to its "otherwordly/unreal" feel.

The older Chaos HQ's,like Kharn, Typhus, Warsmith (not Warpsmith) generic Lord, the metal Daemon Prince, etc are all 13+ years old and still look great. Likewise the metal Cult troops.

Pretty much all the older Chaos stuff in general looks great.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

How old are we talking? A few people mentioned the Diaz Deamonettes, but they came out when I first started WHFB, so my mind doesn't stuff them under "old". I basically like everything that came out in the early 2000s.

I still like the metal Cadians and most of the 95/96 named Space Marine heroes.

I believe Jes Goodwin is responsible for those - his stuff tends to age well. He did the designs for the SM dreadnought (that's still in use some 20+ years later - even if it's now plastic, not metal).

@JimSolo: Banshees had at least 5-6 different versions since incept in 1990. Warp Spiders are the oldest unchanged aspect warrior models these days with the same tired old 3 poses (spider 1, spider 2 and exarch) that still look good because JG did them, though.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

In my mind everything released from 3rd onwards is 'new'.

Not much 2nd ed stuff still in production, but I like "not short, just far away" Abaddon. He looks like a grumpy old man tooled up to tear down the establishment he has lost all faith in.

I found if you glue him with the sword hilt and stormbolter touching his shoulder pads as extra points of contact then his arms don't even fall off!
