After much debate and several attempts at different Heresy era armies, I've finally settled on the XVII Legion. I'll be making the Unspeaking Chapter of the Legion set after Calth so I'll be going for the crimson armored followers of the old gods.

Since I've had several attempts at Heresy era Legions with both the Dark Angels and Space Wolves, I have lots of bits from some FW, lots of GW and old conversions. Setting the Chapter after Calth also comes from this as I've got lots of different Marks of armor. I see the Chapter as having to scavenge armor from vanquished enemies and make due with whatever Marks of armor they can make at this point. A beginning of the Chaos Marine mixes of armor if you will.

I also wanted to set the Legion as post Calth as Chaos Marines have always been my favorite army in 40K, so doing the first Chaos Legion appeals greatly to me.

I've got several thousand points of Marines from all my projects over the years, and many of them will now be Word Bearers. Some have been set aside for a future Loyalist project, but that's down the road.

So with that, here are my first two test models, a Vexilla bearer and nuncio-vox operator for my first Tactical Squad. I'm planning on buying the additional combat blade option for this squad so I will be modelling several with bolters and a close combat weapon. The rest of the squad and a rhino is on my work bench now so they will be coming along shortly.

Sorry for the iPhone pictures, but I can't find my camera right now. I hope this gives an idea of the scheme I'm going for at least.

No, they're all from Forgeworld's Word Bearers decal sheet.

Very nice. Keep up the good work

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

I've finally made some progress and got the first 10 Astartes done for my first Tactical Squad. I want to have two 20 man squads as a base so I'll be adding another 10 to this squad. So here they are:

I'm going for the post Calth look so lots of scavanged Marks of armor in there, and remnants of several earlier attempts at Heresy era armies from before Forgeworld made 30k kits. I did just get the Betrayal at Calth box so I'll have lots more proper Mk IV armor in there. Of course it'll be mixed in with this:

Lots of building coming up before I get to painting again, so my next updates will be filling out this squad and my second Tactical squad, then building lots of support squads and my HQ's.

They are coming along very nicely. Love the squiggles! Quite the kitbashing you've got there

So no painting updates, but lots of building updates! I've got all my infantry squads completed, 7 total squads. Two twenty man tactical squads, one plasma squad, one melta squad, one assault squad, one missile squad and one heavy bolter squad!

My Spartan came in the mail the other day, so that's on the list now, along with Terminators, a Contemptor, Lorgar and Kor Pharon and Erebus. With lots of other stuff of course!

Another small update, I put together (not) Lorgar, Kor Pharon, Erebus, Terminators, Contemptor, a Spartan and repaired an old Land Raider.

I must say that the Spartan was a pain in the rear end, and it was an older one with the seperate track bits. Those are the devil.

I'll be using the GW possessed as stand ins for the Gal Vorbak and to get 10 of them in the field a little more cheaply.

I also primed all the basic infantry now so I can start painting again. I'm also waiting on Zardu Layak and the Blade slaves, a Mhara Gal dread, a real Gal Vorbak squad and an Ashen Circle unit. I'll probably run Zardu Layak as my HQ most of the time as my army is from the Unspeaking Chapter and that's what he was leading most of the time. And the mini is amazing.

Another update, my first full strength Tactical Squad is all done!

I also got my next order from Forgeworld:

Zardu Layak and the Blade Slaves, Gal Vorbak, Mhara Gal and a unit of Ashen Circle. Zardu Layak will be my army leader, so the Ashen Circle and possessed units are fluffy, I just need to figure out how to fit them all in a list! Also, the Gal Vorbak are huge! I've seen comparison photos with normal marines, but seeing them in person makes a difference.

Very nice looking squad, the gods will be pleased. Good job varying the helmets for extra personnality ! Looking forward to your latest demonic purchase...

I finally finished up Tactical Squad 2. Painting up 20 man squads is a challenge for me, but I've now got 40 Marines fully painted!

I don't know how I managed the glossy look on some of them as I used the same technique on all of them, same paints and same washes. I like the glossier look, but it seems to have flattened out after the first five or so.

The army is still trucking along, just at my normal slow pace! I did manage to paint up my Sicaran so here's the pictures of that:

I finally got two games in last week and was unimpressed by Erebus and Zardu Layak on the tabletop. I was impressed by the generic Preator kitted out for melee my opponents used. They can be beasts! I built one that I'll be using as the Chapter Master of the Unspeaking and am converting some old Saguinary Guard to use as his Command Squad. The death masks will be nice as I'm making them have no lips so the will be his Silent Guard, the elite of the Unspeaking. That and they look cool!

Very cool tank, well done ! And your idea for the Unspeaking elite should turn out pretty badass, looking forward to that.

I joined the worldwide escalation league running currently and got bit by the Mechanicum bug. I wanted to go Dark Mechanicum and Scoria is awesome so Xana it was!

Here's the first 500 points, sorry for the iPhone pictures, haven't gotten better ones yet

And here's the first painted automata:

It's a little browner than the official scheme but I'm happy with it. Now only of FW would put out the official transfers!

I got my first 500 points painted for my Xanaite Mechanicum and got some better pictures of them. The Magos is hard to get a good shot of with the giant head piece casting shadows and the black robes.
