Do you feel great when you crush the opponents army by turn 2-3, when you dominate and overwhelm him with sheer force? Or do you like the game to be uncertain untill the final moments of the last turn? And in general - what victory is more satisfying - a desicive, certain victory, won by executing a strict plan or a hard-fought victory, that was won by adapting to an unforseen situation?

I preferred to lose, actually, though it damn well better be a close battle!

Women? Playing 40k? Highly unlikely. Points for Conan though.

Games where neither side has been tabled but there's a few key units left. I had one where my warlord had a 2+ save 6+ fnp. He was scoring line breaker and had 1 wound left. I was winning by 1 VP. My opponent shot the 1 man from his dark Eldar squad that had almost been destroyed, who had a dark lance. He hit! He wounded! I go to male my save! 6! I won that game but I could just have easily lost.

Failing that a one sided stomping of my enemy is always welcome.

I never remember the games where I crushed my opponent. I remember not getting tabled by a cheese Eldar list but still losing badly, I remember beating Skyhammer, I remember beating Orks by a surprisingly low margin even though I was killing 10+ Orks with Templates alone before they were even out of their Trukks per turn, I remember having my Hive Tyrant and Guard killed by a lone Chaplain with Mace and losing the game from Linebreaker because of that lost combat only.
I really don't care if I win or lose as long as my army performs well. I want to win every game, but if I put up a good fight, I'm not disappointed by a loss at all. A devastating win is just another mark on the board, but not memorable these days and not as fun.

I like close, evenly-matched battles that rely on strategic implementation of force rather than deux ex dice. I'd prefer to lose a battle like that than win with a crushing victory; it's no fun watching my opponent get dejected and not look like they're having fun.

One of my most memorable battles was one where I lost, but I did such horiffic morale damage to my opponent that he's now permanently scared of my Emperor's Champion.
BT vs UM, I'd lost pretty much everything by T3, and done no damage (not surprising, I was footslogging against Sternguard Vets), and my EC had his unit of Crusaders whittled down to nothing. EC charges in, kills all but one Sternguard in a unit. Waits out the opponent shooting phase, finishes the unit, runs over to a Terminator squad, bolt pistols the sergeant to death, and then fills the remaining four in one round of melee. Consolidates into cover, but gets put down by massed Poison (2+) fire from ten more Sernguard (and saved waaay more than he should have done).
T'was a close-but-no-banana moment for the EC, but it spawned a long line of small testgames which proved that the EC would handily beatdown almost all opponents from C:SM, unless they had a Thunder Hammer. My opponent does not have Thunder Hammers.

It really depends who I'm playing.
Against some opponents I would prefer to win by a massive margin.
Against others I prefer the game to be much closer.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

I want a super close game, where victory is uncertain and only decided in the final moments. I also love winning in a comeback from almost certain annihilation.

It depends on the setting, if it's a tournament for a solid prize, I'd rather crush and take the free wins. If it's a low level tournament, or a fun game, I'd be happier with a more back and forth game that really tests the skill of each player. That's not to say I wouldn't like a high skill game at a high prize tournaments, just that a "free win" is a lot more beneficial.

For it to not feel unfair. I like to have to work for my victories, not to have it handed to me by codex imbalances. This does not mean they have to necessarily be close. Defeating an equally strong, or even better foe by out thinking and out maneuvering them is great.

If you think your important, in the great scheme of things. Do the water test.
Put your hands in a bucket of warm water,
then pull them out fast. The size of the hole shows how important you are.
I think we should roll some dice, to see if we should roll some dice, To decide if all this dice rolling is good for the game.
