Before I embark on purchasing FW stuff just wanted some feedback on how commonly they are used in clubs?

Currently work overseas so my knowledge base is limited.
1) .If you turn up at a local WH shop will FW stuff will this equate to immediate pariah status?
2) Do most peeps feel FW stuff is a little over the top but still ok?

Mostly play Eldar and am finding that if I play them to their fullest potential (looking at you Jet ScatL's, let alone WK's) It's a very powerful, fast, shooting army with few weaknesses. Making its ability to punish players exorbitantly if they make mistakes. Wanting more of a challenge and fun being a relatively even playing field I'm finding myself fielding less cheesey units which seems counter intuitive to the whole game.

3) Are Hornets seen just another layer of cheese to an already strong codex?
4) Light tanks with more power than a tri-laz predator, is it just another reason not to play the Eldar player? Is there a weakness I'm not seeing?

I know Eldar armies are beaten regularly in tournaments but it's the semi-social-club games I'm more interested in. You have to play anti Eldar units to have a chance against even a stock standard less cheesy Eldar army. Is this the feeling out there or is my own experience in this too limited? Eldar aren't that tough and are getting beaten regularly?

thanks for your imput

The reaction you'll get to FW depends on the players you meet. Admittedly, you'll already have one strike against you for playing Eldar. Also, the new IA book is on the way and it might have updated rules for the Hornet, so you may want to wait a bit.

Hornets are very undercosted under their current rules, I personally put their "cheesiness" somewhere between scatterbikes and d-cannon wraithguard. Like all the Eldar units, there is no weakness, just a ridiculously good unit. That said, they are about to get a new book/rules from FW so that could change.
And your feelings about Eldar are the common experience, it's why you see so much hate for Eldar online and in person.

Nobody at the FLGS I used to go to would really play FW. It wasn't disallowed, but everyone said they were overpowered and unfair.

For me personally, I don't care. Its still pretty much from the same people and on the same system so there is a way I can beat it with any of my armies. Myself and my friends are very casual players though.

I found that the forge world sticker shock wore off after a few games in my local shop. We tend to have a higher caliber of players in my area and we found very quickly that fw units tend to be over shaddowed by the codex units. Hornets are good, but war walkers are very close behind for cheaper, the warphunter and firestorm used to be great units until around 3 years ago.....and even then they were meh for the points. If anything the codex has more cheese than fw.......wraithknights, I'm looking at you!

The Forgeworld bug here in America was slowly crushed by our west coast friends. Now here on the east coast, Forgeworld is generally accepted. Occasionally you'll see a 0-1 put on Forgeworld, but this is also in reference to events.

In our playing group, we don't mind forgeworld at all. My Tyranid friend swears by Forgeworld units, and so does my IG buddy.

I personally play Eldar, and I typically field 2 units of 2 hornets both with pulse lasers. They are devastating, but they are only 2hp with armour 11... they go down quickly.

They're like everything else in the game, the right counter unit will ruin them. A good example I have is recently I played against my friends Dark Angels, and with his re-rollable 2+ or 3+ jink saves, it did not matter how many str 8 ap2 shots I brought... I couldn't ignore his cover. It was a very close and frustrating game from a damage dealing perspective. It was a lot of fun.

I got my hornets last year and have been using them for about that long and it did take a little while for my playing group to adjust, but given how soft they are defensively, it wasn't a difficult adjustment for them.

As an aside, according to the people on the facebook group "Eldar"... the Hornets have not changed in the new IA 11. We'll see. The new Lynx rules have my eye!

Quoted for truth. Hornets aren't broken, but currently they're extremely under-costed for how strong they are. So they're a little bit strong on the cheese factor, without being totally offensive. I completely agree with Greyknight's assessment of their cheese factor.

I'm actually hoping Forgeworld increases their point cost with the soon-to-be-released update book, because I absolutely love the models and I'd love to put them on the table without feeling too guilty.

Everywhere I've been has been just fine with Forge World.

In fact, I play a 30k army more often than not, and they're okay with that too, and I've played in three separate and disparate places across two countries.
