Hello people ! I was wondering what was in your opinion the best option between a Dual-Powerfist Helbrute and a Maulerfiend, and more importantly, why. Obvious advantages of the DPF Helbrute is his low cost and point and money and his superior WS, and for the maulerfiend it's the magma cutter and its speed. Beside that, how to decide ?
Thanks for your opinion.

Um. Ok so I would pick the maulerfiend every time.
Yes the brute has the better ws and initiative, but it is so much slower. Remember the maulerfiend is also fleet and ignores difficult terrain.
The mauler also has an invulnerable, so is more durable.
It's easily worth the extra points.

Here are what each have going for it:

Helbrute:

Higher BS by 1
Higher Ini by 1
Cheaper initial cost
Can have multi melta/auto cannon/ lascannons

Maulerfiend:

Move through cover
12 inch movement speed (vs Helbrute 6")
5+ invul by being a Daemon of Khorne
Magma cutter load out grants more attacks
Lash tendrils reduce enemy model attacks when in contact
Has It Will Not Die
Fleet

If you are looking for a fast Assault unit then there really isn't a choice, the Maulerfiend gives you a lot more potent package for a few more points than a Helbrute.

If you are looking for a multi role unit with some decent shooting and can hold it's own in CC, or if you a strapped for points, then the Helbrute would be an ok option.

Maulerfiend is better unless you also need some ranged firepower. I only use a Helbrute because I don't have any Maulerfiends. On the other hand, a Helbrute with two power fists can take a heavy flamer in each one...

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Helbrutes are a lot smaller so they fit more easily into tight spaces.. Something to consider!

Maulerfiend is better by a mile. In addition to the reasons already stated, it also doesn't have to roll on a stupid and unpredictable table like the Helbrute

Super true, that chart kills hellbrutes for me. Fiend is super good also.

Helbrutes also have no attacks basically if you give them a range weapon, unlike the Loyalist option.
On top of that, to make up for a lack of attacks, Maulerfiends cam either lower the attacks of the opponent or score additional Melta equivalent hits on the opponent. Coupled with the naturally higher mobility, and I'm not sure why someone would ever take a Helbrutes.

They're pretty nice in the dataslate formations in 'normal' chaos marine armies - but those aren't available to daemonkin.

Because their heavy support slots are full with the only shooting worth a damn in the entire army and they can't take another CAD?

I honestly can't concieve why anyone would even consider for a second taking a 'Brute over a 'Fiend (rules-wise).
