The fire warrior box comes with 20 bits for shoulder pads and heads as well as the backpacks. All your missing is 10 torsos and legs, which the pathfinder box gives you. If you want to make two units of fire warriors, buy a box of pathfinders for 37$ and then the normal fire warrior box for 50 and save yourself 13 bucks. That being said, you could always just go on ebay and grab the needed pathfinder bits you'd be using for far cheaper too.

Doesn't really look the same, though. Pathfinders are like Tau scouts, so they don't have as much armor plating on the legs (and the torsos aren't meant to have backpacks either, but you could probably just glue one on anyway). Maybe not a big deal to some people, but it makes a difference to me.

What boxed set would you need to buy afterwards to make use of the leftover pathfinder bits?

Use them on spare bases as your Tau close combat experts

Use them to decorate the bases of your marines or nids, of course!

I've been suggesting to people if they want to go this route to build the Pathfinders as Strike Teams rather than Breachers. A lot of them like that idea, since the Strike Teams are a bit further out during combat so could get away with less armor on their legs.

Nice cost saving tip. I got too many models to buy those now, so I'll be sticking with the oldies but goodies. Still, nice tip.

Wait a minute. Aren't there 12 firewarriors in a unit but only 10 in a boxed set? Won't you be missing a couple?

IDK about the new codex but it used to be 6 to 12 FW per team, with the option to add two drones. The Devilfish carries 12 infantry size figures, so a team of 10 plus two drones makes sense, except that the drones used to be useless compared to two extra FW.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

This is an even better idea for those of us unlucky enough to live in convict territory - a box of Fire Warriors is $85, but a box of Pathfinders is a paltry $48!

Save yourself $37 and spend it on drop bear repellent.
