I have saved the crossbows from my Judicators with the intention of converting some cheap eBay Liberators to upgraded weapons. I know other people have mentioned just making the converted models into Judicators but it seems like if they still have their shields they should still be given the "Sigmarite Shields" ability and re-roll save rolls of 1.

Thoughts?

Follow the War Scroll. Do Judicators have the ability to take Shields? Do Liberators have the ability to take Crossbows?

Ultimately, how your models are modeled SHOULD match the Warscroll, but the Warscroll is what is important.

I think I understand what you're saying. Basically a Judicator is a Judicator and a Liberator is Liberator. So either stick to one Warscroll or the other but don't create something in the middle.

Thanks! I am still trying to figure all of this out.

Exactly so. Gluing shields onto a Judicator just makes a cooler looking Judicator. It doesn't give them any extra rules.

Don't the starter set models have similarly bothersome parts structure to the Dark Vengeance models? Half a face there, half here, arms stuck to the torso on one side, half an arm here, etc? I wouldn't want to convert those honestly.

They're definitely not ideal for conversions, but doable dependent upon your hobby skills. It's not a simple matter of cutting at the wrist and changing weapons.

I put a shield on my Lord-Celestant to replace the Hammer, looks waaaaaay better. I wish I could get the re-roll one ability for saves but I just say that he uses his shield to bash his enemies which has the same in-game effect as him using a hammer.
