Inspired by the 'enlightened' thread over in General Discussion that posits that AM are broken under the assertation (among other such ridiculous assertations) that they can flood the field with AV14, I thought I'd take a crack at seeing what a competitive list with as many Russes as possible might look like. Everyone, please, contribute, add, take away, the sky's the limit on this one, let's craft what the most optimised Russ spam list is, then we can all agree that in a competitive setting it would most likely get rolled over

HQ:

Pask: Punisher (210)

Leman Russ Executioner: Plasma Sponsons (185)

Troops:

Veterans: 3x Melta (90)

Veterans: 2x Melta (80)

DT: 1x Chimera (65)

FA:

Valkyrie: Multiple Missile Pods (135)

Vendetta (170)

HS:

Wyvern Battery: 2x Wyvern (130)

Leman Russ Squadron: 3x Eradicator (360)

Leman Russ Squadron: 3x Exterminator, 3x Lascannon (420)

Total: 1845

2x Melta Vets go in the Chimera, 3x Melta Vets got in the Valkyrie.

Thoughts? 8 AV14 hulls is a lot to get through, but the firepower they put out isn't actually that threatening.

I posted this list awhile ago, I'm still in the process of putting the models together, but it seems a good way to get as many tanks as you can get and making use of the Steel Host formation. 7 leman russ tanks achieves a good armour saturation I think.

Combined Arms Detachment: Astra Militarum
-Tank Commander Squad [360]
Pask Commander Punisher with Lascannon
Exterminator with Lascannon
-Veteran Squad [170]
Sergeant, Three Veterans with Meltaguns, Six Veterans with Lasguns, Taurox
-Veteran Squad [140]
Sergeant, Three Veterans with Meltaguns, Six Veterans with Lasguns, Taurox
-Veteran Squad [140]
Sergeant, Three Veterans with Meltaguns, Six Veterans with Lasguns, Taurox

-Wyvern

Formation: The Steel Host
-Tank Commander Squad [310]
Commander Exterminator with Lascannon
Exterminator with Lascannon
-Leman Russ Squadron [195]
Executioner with Lascannon and Plasma Cannon Sponsons
-Leman Russ Squadron [195]
Executioner with Lascannon and Plasma Cannon Sponsons
-Leman Russ Squadron [195]
Executioner with Lascannon and Plasma Cannon Sponsons

-Hydra

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I hate having to put Leman russes in to Squads as it clumps them together too much and also, when they are assaulted, the enemy can hit all of them. I made this list trying to get as many leman russes as I could spread out to as many squads as I could

I hate to be the one to tell the person that says AM is broken they are dead wrong but...I mean they don't finish in the top tables ever as far as I can tell. Leaman Russ's have been around forever in various forms.

And then there are new additions to the meta like oh say optimized stealth cadre for tau which lets all models in the formation hit against rear armor. That formation can easily drop 2 Russ's a turn by itself, assuming max ghostkeels.

That being said I have always liked the cheap av14 and the theme of a tank army. But with things like haywire and optimized stealth cadre that don't care about av14 it seems a bit of a waste.

I sense that fear. Seems radier spam will be a thing once again to avoid those damned keels.

The AV 14 is good, but not great. Think of a tank as having the potential to be a 1 wound model. With the potential increasing with the increase in AP of the weapon being shot at it.

Having 3 LR is a unit means they will all have to be shooting at the same unit which could end up as over kill.
