That's interesting. He's only in Sweden apparently.

But no, he's not new. It looks to be different packaging and he includes a 32mm round base rather than a 25mm round base.

Looks like a re-boxing of the multipart one we've had for ages...

Ah, found both (http://www.games-workshop.com/en-SE/Space-Marine-Commander) - looks like it comes with a 32mm base and that's the only change.

Probably just different packaging and a new base.

He shows up on the UK site as well.

Nope. Chaos have outdated tech and must be modelled as such

It's not an update in the sense you're thinking.

The product description makes it clear that the only change is that it now has a 32mm base instead of a 25mm.

It's just annoying that there is no generic individual terminator model anymore. I don' want to buy 5 models when i only need one.

Nice model, but a Captain needs a cc weapon which is more suitable for his higher initiative.

Hardly. When you're on a Bike and therefore have T5, you're tough enough to go last, and being able to ID T4 characters is more important than striking beforehand.

I wish this kit came with a Power Maul. Still, I have two of this kit and really like it. I think it could probably use an update, though.

There is a noticeable lack of mauls out there. Looking forward to the one from the HH:BaC box (because I need more foot captains )

I agree this is a great kit, but quite dated. The sprues have tons of dead space and the detail and mould lines are not the best. The sort of things you expect with a mini this old. It does have lots of options and cool bits, and is much better then the mono-pose captains from a playability POV.

I’m not holding my breath on them re-cutting it though.

I honestly only use FW to build Marine characters. They have essentially all the options you could want, and older MK's is handy for a revered warrior and whatnot.

Yes, somethings did evolve.

Yep, the Legion Power Weapons sets from Forgeworld are an excellent source for character upgrade parts. I like the MkIV in particular for this, because it comes with two special torsos, unlike the other sets.

I am surprised the kit is available at all considering they charge 50% more for a monopose Captain.

But don't you realise? That's the point. The H-H-H-Hobby is about spending as much £££ as possible. The more costly and useless the purchase, the better!

It's just a new box with a 32mm base. It's exactly the same as the old Space Marine Commander box, including the paintjob

You can also get him in the Space Marine or Blood Angels battleforce box (the one that's about $100).

The main reason to buy this kit is for the double-eagle backpack and the caped back armor - it's a SM back torso piece that has a sculpted cape, with a nub to attach a SM backpack. This is something that is otherwise very difficult to do, and the eagle pack is quite unique, unless you're playing space wolves, in which case the upgrade pack has a cool backpack of the same sort (but with wolves).

There are also some useful hand/arm poses that you don't get much of in other kits, but that's not really a great reason to buy an expensive single model.

All the other bits in it are fine, but no longer that interesting. The weapons are superseded by better, newer ones, the banner is boring, the front upper torso is superseded by sternguard and other kits, and the plastic is cut using the older, pre-2009 process that is not as smooth.
