The original cast putting up a Kickstarter to make new episodes of the beloved Mystery Science Theater 3000. Heck yes I'm on board with this.

My father used to love that show; I watched it with him a few times.
I think I'd like it more of there were some more recent movies though.
Also, sort of hard to believe it costs half a million dollars per episode to produce. Are the rights for movies 50 years old really so expensive? It's not like there were virtually any other production expenses.

Yes, I love MST3K and being a proud Minnesotan want this to succeed, but jesus the price tag is steep. And none of the rewards really jump out at me as being the sweet spot, so I will probably just go in for $10.

Those more recent films you long for probably cost more money than the older films I imagine.

Oh no, I agree that it is way to much, overall. I love MST3K and I'm not backing it because I think they need to much and I also don't have a problem with the past being in the past. If it ever comes out I will watch it I have no doubt, but I can't see backing this.
hotsauceman1 wrote:What is wrong with Rifftrax? Its really no different from MS3TK.
Besides being (generally) just an audio track there is quite a difference between lovingly mocking older, bad films and just outright mocking every film; making fun of Casablanca in audio form isn't the same as making fun of Manos: The Hands of Fate in visual form. The Rifftrax Red Dawn is terrific though, and they (barely) make the Star Wars Prequels and Twilight bearable. Just barely though.

I'm backing a small amount because MST3K is my all time favorite show.
Even though Servo and Crow are returning, the entire cast will be all new. I'm not sure how I feel about that because Kevin Murphy is Tom Servo. Also, as much as I enjoy Trace, I like Bill Corbett's Crow better.

It wouldn't be Mystery Science Theater 3000 if they weren't riffing on old, gakky movies.

Sure, I get that. Ultimately I think that rifftrax already provides what I want anyway so... eh.

I'm interested in backing it. I haven't seen all of it, but the few I have seen were hilarious. Yet I'm confused what the rewards offer. Are they going all digital? Also, what does $10 reward offer?

"The original cast" is a bit of a stretch. Joel is the only one involved and he won't even be on screen.

There is no right answer to that, but even Simple Jack knows that Trace's Crow was far superior to that second string whatever they brought in to replace him.

I like Trace just fine, but I like Bill's attitude much better.
His Crow was was much more cynical. Also, he has some of my favorite host segments (like Turkey Volume Guessing Man).
