Mortarion, The Child of Death, The Reaper, The Death Lord. Master of the XIV Legion

This model from Kabuki Models is the first of three of their not-Primarchs I will be working on, and also my entry into this month's Painting Challenge here on Dakka. Any feedback, questions, thoughts or gallery votes are is appreciated!

My aim with this model was to experiment with a limited palette that used washes, glazes, stains and drybrushing to provide a model that is at the same time quite monochromatic but with depth, texture and colour built up over the top for contrast and overall effect. Personally, I'm rather pleased with the results, this model is one that ended up looking exactly how I had planned.

Thanks for looking!

Oh I like it ! Has the perfect balance of weathering and colours although saying that I think it could with some pop, just a little bit of contrast somewhere ? I think it'd really help bring out some of the details on the model.

Still though not a bad model at all

The weathering and textures look amazing and realistic up close. A technical achievement far beyond what I can do! But from a distance, he looks a bit muted and lacks the contrasts necessary to show details down on the table top. I would agree with Wolf to add just a few colors to draw attention to a focal area like the face or iconography or weapon. Definitely a beautiful model on its own when viewed closely, with so much to look at, but it loses some of the magic when viewed from farther back. But it sounds like you got what you were going for, so great job and well done.

Thanks everyone!

@Riddle of Steel: That muted look is kind of exactly what I was going for; something that at first appears monochromatic and then 'comes to life' when you look closer. He's a mini that was done purely for the shelf rather than the tabletop, so the thing of viewing from a distance is not a problem really.
