What do think should be done about isil / syrian war?
The situation and the players as best as i know.
All party's want isil ultimately gone, the west want Assad gone and democracy installed and Russia and her allies want him to stay for stability.
Elements of Saudi Arabia, one of America's closest allies in the region, is backing Isil with money, weapons and training because they want Assad gone so much, but they have a lot of money and even more oil so America will not do condemn them.
The west doesn't want to get involved in a ground war with Isil because Afghanistan and Iraq cost them so heavily, and then couldn't leave.
Russia's involvement by backing Assad has really made the west/US/Saudi agenda, of getting rid of him and his regime by backing the rebels, really impossible. Particularly as they are fractured into many different groups and many areas were captured and the fighters forced or joined isil and are being bombed by Russia.
However Russia and Iran who back Assad have said they see a future where Assad steps down but not in the future. For the west to work with the regime there would need to be negations about a ceasefire, and considering his human rights violations against the Syrian people, is very unlikely.
It seems as if only the Kurds, Turkey and Afghanistan are fighting them on the ground but they aren't enough. (and the Turks and Kurds are in a territorial war).
I really don't see a solution coming out of the Veina talks, the west wont put troops on the ground, the air strikes are close to useless, uniformed backing of forces on the ground seems to be impossible, what else is left?
