I've been thinking about how random and feelsbad.jpg the current iteration of Chaos Boons is, and kinda want to have a go at "fixing" those aspects of it.

My proposal (as a theory, don't actually have anything beyond that.):

Same trigger as before, but now you roll a d6, and that determines the type of boon you get to select. (i.e. a 1 would allow you to pick from a list that might give you +1 atk, 3" of additional movement in the movement phase for your unit, you and your unit gain Relentless, or +1 Toughness.) Just threw those together off the cuff, so don't yell OP at me, please.

What set this off was another website that proposed moving from a D6 system to a D10 system, and I immediately cringed because of the things that GW could do to the CSM with that, which led me to think of what could be adjusted about the boons to make it not AS cringe worthy.

the WFB WoC book has a similar table but its a 2d6 table. Spawnhood and apotheosis are there still, but its a lot more tame than random d66 results

I went to Hershey Park in central PA this year, and I have to say I was more than a little disappointed. I fully expected the entire theme park to be make entirely of chocolate, but no. Here in America, we have "building codes," and some other nonsense about chocolate melting if don't store it someplace kept below room temperature.

So, why didn't they just... port it over, instead of having the d66 result?

The inner machinations of the GW dev team are an enigma. Why are psychic powers random? why is charge range random? Who knows!

But in all seriousness, that is a question only the GW devs know the answer to and I don't think they troll forums in their free time. I'm not totally sure, but if you could acquire the 8th ed WoC book, and just port it over yourself, I don't think there would be any crazy inconsistencies. A lot of special rules in 8th ed WFB are similar to 50k, but with different names.

I might have to do that.

I just hate how... random... everything is. I've introduced house rules to my group from the "tweaking" thread, and they've all been met with enjoyment and enthusiasm...

GW, WHY CAN'T YOU JUST MAKE THE GAME INTERNALLY BALANCED?!? WHAT DID CHAOS EVER DO TO YOU, HUH?!? IS IT BECAUSE WE HAVE THE MOST OVERUSED CATCH PHRASE EVER?!?

I actually like the table; there's just too many choices is all. I agree with streamlining it.

I kind of like the table as well when I briefly played CSM. It's just that some of the upgrades seem pointless. Hey look, my bolt pistol on my champion is STR 5. Look out! It needs to be streamlined and have all the upgrades (barring nothing and spawnhood) be beneficial to the recipient.

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

Please throw out the randomn table and replace with a tally system. First bonus =+1 ws/bs, n3xt is +1i and ld, then next reward is +1 A/W, or something easy to remember.

Replace the Boons chart with the Path to Glory from the Advent calendar chart.

Shorter, less useless boons( only one thats really useless is one that give fear), Gods specific Boons depending on your mark.

Also have a Lesser Glory chart for units, that give a Once per battle ability, all of them are quite nice, specifically the ones that give a unit an extra shooting during the shooting phase, or the one that allows a unit to DS instead of moving and assault the same turn if they don't scatter.
