Army 5 only allows ITS-compliant armies. That means mercenaries are restricted to the specific Sectorial army lists in which they feature (see the Unit Profiles PDF on the website).

Ah ok i get it now. Would have been nice to leave in the old "show mercs" option but you guess its a competitive gave after all

The older builders (aleph toolbox, etc) allowed them - and it was clear there was more than one way to play the game. There was ITS and there was a less competitive, tournament mindset.

OUTSIDE OF ITS, Mercs are allowed in friendlies by mutual accord. This text is missing from the English rules (accidental omission).

"Players can only add Mercenary Troops to their Army List by mutual accord, or if such troops are available for their faction, or their Sectorial Army. "

This was posted on the official forums by Palanka - the rules guy.
http://infinitytheforums.com/forum/topic/30261-mercenary-troops-missing-text-in-the-english-edition-of-n3/ - forum link to that page.

So, you CAN use them, but you can't use army 5 to do it as unfortunately, army5 only allows you to create "ITS legal" lists. So sectorials are ONLY allowed to use the mercs listed in their force list, and no others. Vanilla armies are allowed to use the 4 mercs common to all human forces (Those 4 are "warcor", "Authorised Bounty Hunter", "Miranda Ashcroft" and "Armand Le Muet") and no-others.
You need to look at the pdf army lists and manually add the points in using something else.

You aren't the only one wanting more functionality in the army builder. Reinstatement of a "non" ITS format list option being one of them.

I normally just leave the points missing from the print off, then print the merc off as an extra list on its own..

Or write on the bottom of the paper using a liquid ink dispenser of some variety

Honestly I find this to be a shame. Mercs units are great, and while some of them have a history with certain sectorials, which is fine to reflect with their inclusion in their army list, Mercs offer a nice change in normal games. After all, not all games are ITS, and even if people are playing the ITS scenarios, they might not be playing with ITS list restrictions.

I am uncertain, but I think Army 5 has got mercs on it's to-do list. But if they do, I think it's one of the less prioritised features.

I really need to stay away from the 40K forums.

Wasn't there talk of Mercs becoming a fully playable ITS list in Archon falls when that campaign book is released next year?

Yes, we know of two at minimum that are coming unless plans change. The idea is they will be like sectionals without a faction. So you wouldn't be ableto buy any merc unit and play with just any other unit, tthey would have to be the part of they same Merc company.

Yes, the two we know of are the White Stars and Behyan Resources Ltd.

The White Stars already have a few units designated to them - Druze Shock Teams, Valerya Gromoz and Scarface and Cordelia.

Behyan Resources Ltd, obviously, will have Kaplan Security teams.

That's all we know of for now. I can't see how they can expand Behyan much, but White Stars seems like it's going to be all of the scum and villainy type units. I'd expect some Corregidor and Haqqislam Corsair types mixed in, and probably Yuan Yuan.

Acheron falls ("working title") was never mentioned as being released "next year". It's the book AFTER the next one. Acheron falls is supposed to have the remaining army forces in it, though - something like 15 lists worth - which means more new models for each faction, too.

The next one is the redo of Human Sphere, which will have the full USAriadna woof-woof sectorial list and the Onyx force (combine) replacing Merovingia (cheese eating surrender monkeys) and Shasvastii (whatever-eating-lizard-frog-people).

Replacing the Merovingian list? So, those players with Merovingian armies should do what with them, exactly?

MRRF isn't getting removed, CB wants to rework them to have more of a "Rapid Reaction Force" feeling than they do at the moment

^ What he said.
You will still be able to use the MRRF sectorial list as it is in the army list pdf with the same AVAs on everything until they DO update it sometime in future. They want to rework it into something that suits it's "rapid reaction force" name.

There just won't be anything new for them in HS. Same goes for Shasvastii.

This has been covered in several podcasts, on the website, and in various blogs and Vlogs so isn't really secret.

But if it stops local players from playing cheese-eating-surrender-monkeys, then so much the better ...

I took your statement that the USARF sectoral army list would be replacing the MRRF sectoral army list as meaning that the new HS book will have the former, but not the latter. I hope the MRRF army list (and the Shasvastii) is at least copied as-is into the HS book; leaving them in an obsolete PDF that lurks somewhere on the website, when the other 98% of it is irrelevant is a particularly stupid idea. Mind you, they've repeatedly failed to keep it up-to-date already, so I wouldn't be surprised; by the letter of the ITS rules, the Unit Profiles PDF is the standard reference and it's missing the profiles for the Seraph, new Domaru and Mobile Brigada and the latest USARF model.

Playing the French at least means it's an Ariadna player not playing the Scots or Yanks, which can only be a good thing.

@Andrew, all the unit you say aren't in Army are there and the Domari and 6th Airborne where put up the day the profile PDF went up. Try reloading and removing any site history.

Actually yes. "Acheron Falls" WAS in line to be next year.

That's after it was in line to be LAST YEAR.

Anyways, there's a possible third Mercenary Sectorial that's been mentioned/hinted at. It depends on how things play out with Beyhan and White Star.

It will NOT be in Human Sphere. They've got big plans for MRRF and supposedly the book is packed to begin with.
