After painting it, I think this is my favorite model of the box. This guy is just a gorgeous model. I considered using a skull from another Chaplain as the head, but decided against it (maybe the next one ). The two-piece Crozius is a really nice item for the left arm. I added a bit of Blood-Angel-ifiication to him -- the cup on the chest plate, and the decal on the shoulder pad, and went for a paint scheme that combined the black chaplain with a cape that says Blood Angels.

There is a bit of a dilemma in the painting of this model. You can't see it in the photos so much, but it's quite hard to reach the back of the model with the cape attached, not to mention the inside of the cape. On the other hand, if you paint it in pieces, you have to deal with the huge split from one side of the cape to the other that separates the front from the back. That's no big deal if pre-assembled, but then how do you reach those tight spots? In the end, I painted all of the hard-to-reach places, including the entire inside of the cape, then assembled him, fixed up the top of the cape, and THEN primed the top and back of the cape.

As always, I appreciate all comments and criticism!!

Thanks, very much, guys!

@Frozocrone - black armor is really easy. It's one of the reasons the model didn't take too long to paint Just prime black, paint black, highlight dark reaper, and then a fine highlight of fenrisian grey. I also did a final touch of blue horror, for example on the shins and corners, to give a metallic glint to it. Dark Reaper, Incubi Darkness, and Steggadon Scale Green are some of my favorite colors for "colorizing" black using highlights, because they are so dark that they barely show up if applied thin, but they give it the illusion of a tint to the whole armor plate.

Alternatively, you can do skavenblight dinge + dawnstone and/or administratum grey if you want to do it without a blue hue.

Looks stunning!

I was intrigued by your comment of a possible head swap for the next model, so I made a quick edit to your picture. I think it looks more like a 40k chaplain this way.

@Hanskrampf - Nice photoshop job Yeah, indeed, you get more of a 40k chaplain look that way. My Reclusiam skull head is free, too, as I used the non-skull head to build that model.

Not a terrible price for it in ausfailia tbh.

You should be flattered i guess - your work was the perfect example of a model done right!

Awesome job! I was also thinking of changing the head out - in my case for a bare screaming blood Angels head. I looked at the sprues yesterday and saw that the head is actually one piece on the body - how would you have gone about swapping the head if I can ask?

Also, what did you use for the chalice motif?

When I did a head swap it wasn't too bad, really. All I did was straight cut the "standard" head off cleanly below the grooves for the soft armor. Then take the head you do want (in my case, the chaplain head from the DV set with the "angel" filed off), trim the rounded bit beneath the soft armor, then just glue it in place like a normal marine. Plus, the high shoulders from the cloak can work to your advantage - hiding any mistakes should they arise in the process.

Then, do a swap on the top of the crozius, convert a Slaanesh banner to be an open Chaos star, add some long parchment, and you've got yourself a brand new dark apostle.
