Seeing Trump leading in the polls in the US so consistently is pretty interesting. I know it's still too far out from any actual vote to be sure, but Trump seems to be doing really well to be staying as the frontrunner even at this point.

What do Dakka's Republican Party supporters think? Who would you like to see take Trump down, or are you hoping he gets the nomination?

I'm fascinated by it, but probably because of the media I consume I don't have a good handle on what American conservatives think about it - I am mostly reading the response from horrified left wingers.

He has my vote due to pure entertainment

Here's what I think.

Donald Trump the Grump! Donald Trump is a Grump! His name is Donald Trump! He is a Grump! Yes he is!

Nobody should vote for him.

Conservative but not republican so i guess I can reply.

If Trump wins the nomination I will actively donate and possibly campaign for HRC. If somehow elected it would be time for the military to step in Turkey Ataturk style. Enlightened democracy is dead at that point.

I think he is entertaining and I like many of his ideas. I do not however think he is really running and is instead intentionally taking flak away from the other candidates and will endorse one of them instead. His immigration stance is excellent and I think we do need an outsider instead of yet another career politician(which shouldnt even exist). He is my number two vote under Carson, and I might not even vote if Rubio wins the primary. Probably will though just to help keep Hillary or loony toon sanders out of office.

There is a strong current of believers that he is a Democratic plant.

Being an EX-republican and my entire family being repubs, I asked them this at Thanksgiving and none of them had an answer. But the difference is they don't think Trump is crazy... He just gets away with saying whatever he wants much how Bill Clinton did in the 90s. They see Trump's extreme talk pandering to the right of the party and then he will use America's amnesia to come back to the center for a general election.

They do see Carson as Crazy and everyone else as losers.

Basically this is Clinton VS Dole minus Perot with the parties reversed. Triangulation.

(I also think he is a plant. He is taking too many plays out of the clinton handbook and too close to them personally)

well trump is a friend of the clintons... But the whole republican line up is a plant, none of them have any leadership potential, they cry about "gotcha questions" like, explain your tax plan. Which makes you wonder what their response to real questions would be. Mr President, our base in Iraq has been attacked what shall we do? the President responds, "why are you asking me these gotcha questions?"

As Emperor of the Liberals, I think a Bernie win would be the best we can get for the next 8 years.

And as an american living abroad, it would be worth making a run for the boarder to vote for him.

I too consider myself conservative and don't feel obligated to the Republican party at all.

My wife (also conservative) sums up Trump as 'A fart in church'.


I don't really like him, I have doubts as to how conservative he really is and some of the stuff he spouts just is not what I would consider presidential.

I DO like the fact he is not a career politician and that he has the Republican Party all in a tizzy. If he forces the party to adopt actual conservative positions and to back candidates that will vote those positions instead backing Big Gov't and Crony Capitalism I will be happy.

He's paying for his own campaign so he can say all the stuff he wants and probably not get elected at the same time.

Though like I say, I've a pretty good bead on how most Democrat leaning people see Trump, but I am always expecting more horror from the Republican side of things as to me he just looks unelectable and HRC would kerbstomp him.

You don't really need to bother. This thread falls pretty strongly under the subject matter of a preexisting thread.

I thought about that thread but it's a bit of a rolling monster and I am more interested in this issue specifically. The general politics thread is more useful for a native who follows all this stuff a bit closer than I would ever feel the need to.

I think this thread is alright, but if a mod disagrees I won't be upset if it gets locked.
