Subject: What color should I paint my Stormcast Eternals?

So...in a moment of weakness I decided to buy the Stormcast Eternal side of the Age of Sigmar Starter Set. I am looking for some ideas on how to paint the miniatures. I am going to make the base color of the armor gold, but the accent color is where I want to branch out a bit. I already have two 40K armies, one in dark blue (Crimson Fists), the other in red (Blood Angels). I am kinda thinking of using the Fang, wash in Nuln Oil, then highlighting in Russ Grey and then Fenrisian Grey. Basically, I want to make the armor part Space Wolf armor. Other thoughts were to go with a Purple(think Emperor' Children) or Green (Dark Angels). But, as of right now, I am leaning toward the Space Wolf colors. Mostly I want Bjorn's grey-blue. Is there a better way to achieve that?

Check out army painter wolf grey primer. It's a very nice space wolfy color. It also saves a load of time.

I don't know if that will be the best route since I am only painting the shield and pauldron parts (the blue parts on the Hammers of Sigmar Stormcast Eternals) the Space Wolf Blue/Grey. I can't really decide what to with their tabards. Most of the time the tabard matches the shield, but I could do a dark brown leather or black and gray leather. Automatically Appended Next Post: I might go a different direction and paint the main armor blue/grey and accents in gold. I will have an extra model that I can experiment a little before I settle in on a color scheme. None of the official color schemes are good for me.

With the tabards - according to the Stormcast Battletome - 'squad' markings are a combination of the colour of the buckle and tabard lining. E.g. Gold buckle/Red tabard, silver buckle/blue tabard, etc.
Apparently there's generally 3 options for each in each chamber, so 'max' of 9 units of the same.type implied.

I will have to read up on that more. Since I am making my own order (or whatever they are called), I can come up with my own stuff anyway.

Got my Stormcast Eternals in the mail today. At first, I thought I had my mind made up on a color scheme, but now I am not so sure. I looked at the Fang paint in person, and it looks way too purple to me. I thought it was blue gray. Now I am thinking Emerald Green or Royal Purple.

Here is hoping. That is what I am thinking I will do. That way it is my own Stormhost. I have two canon 40K armies, I want to make this one my own.
EDIT: What color should I make the plumes on the Primes? Red would contrast well with the Green. But that is the only color I am certain on. Blue might be a good choice as well.

Gold undercoat with a solid green ink or tamiya clear looks good. It becomes a super shiny metallic green, kind of like what you see on cars.

Hmmm, that would be pretty simple to pull off since the base miniature is gold. That way I could use the Retributor Gold spray to prepare all of the miniatures.

Actually you would probably need an airbrush to lay down the tamiya clear. I'm not sure how well the ink would go over the gold if you brushed it on... maybe just experiment a little with it. I know you can find some great, really vibrant, inks at art stores that come in nice big pots and might work. It definitely wasn't an easy suggestion unless you had an easy way to spray on the green.
That said even a regular green over a gold basecoat instead of a black basecoat could look really good. Maybe just experiment a little.

Don't own an airbrush, so I will just have to brush it on by hand. Never know, this might make me want to make a Salamanders army .

Sorry for the really crappy quality phone pic, but this is what I was trying to explain.
I think the green over the gold looks great, but it needs to be applied evenly and with a colour that will just tint the gold again and again and again, not cover it.
I should really finish this guy.

I like that concept a lot, jonolikespie. The flakes in the underlaying metallic look a bit large. Is that a GW metallic? I find that I need to thin them pretty carefully to avoid that but drybrushing thinned metallic paint in a lighter color over an airbrushed base coat also helps. As to acrylic washes, I gave my AoS starter Blood Warriors a TAP red tone wash over a brass basecoat. It really "matte'd" down the mettalic, which is what I wanted (dried blood look) but may not be what OP is going for.

It was a Darkstar metallic, they tend to just naturally have that sparkly appearance to them but not nearly that pronounced in person.

I am still what I consider to be a novice painter. A lot of what has been put forward sounds really cool, but is likely outside what I am really capable of. I still need to post a picture of my Commander Dante. He is about the best painted miniature I have done. He also happens to share a lot of traits with the Stormcast Eternals, so hopefully I can replicate it.
What I am thinking is black or brown undercoat, then Retributor Gold Base. Wash in either Agrax Earthshade or Reikland Fleshshade. Highlight with Liberator Gold. Fine details in Runefang Steel. The green will be Waagh Flesh Base. Agrax Earthshade or Seraphim Sepia wash. Highlight with Warpstone Glow. Fine details in Moot Green. Should get a nice, bright green. Might take the green glaze and coat all the green parts for a little shine.
Question: I am not very familiar with the GW Dry paints. Would using the Sigmarite Dry paint be a better way to the miniature be a better way to get the gold to really pop rather than Runefang Steel? Same with Niblet Green for the green?

The last highlight on any bright gold object I paint is always the brightest silver I have available.

I wonder if Necron Compound would be a good choice for that. It is brighter and I might get sharper edges that way.

One thing about the dry range, those paints go on heavy even when you think you have most of it off of your brush.

:( Then I will probably avoid them, since I am already hamfisted when it comes to applying paint.

The dry range is supposed to be really good at teaching newbies how to drybrush, but drybrushing is a technique used for fur, chainmail and those kinds of textures as you basically wipe the brush over the whole area but with so little paint it only picks up the raised portions. A sigmarine is going to be a lot better off with the edge highlights. The guy on the Warhammer TV youtube channel has a bunch of great examples of both of those.

I personally hate the look of edge highlighting (I have to kind of look "through" GW studio paint jobs) and do all my highlighting via drybrushing.

I can't get sharp edges, so my edge highlighting looks a little sloppy. I probably should highlight with drybrushing, but I would probably mess that up too.
Does combining the two yield good results? Kinda want to dust my Crimson Fists with Hoeth Blue to get a little more definition.

You won't mess up drybrushing. A wash followed by a drybrush is a very easy trick that yields quite satisfying results.

Noted. The Stormcasts will probably be a good way for me to perfect the technique so I can apply it to my Blood Angels once I start working on them.

Those are pretty awesome. I will have to come up with a cool name for my Stormhost.

Just use the dark angels colours, the base dark green and bright green for edging. You should give p3 a go I did and never looked back. The only citadel paints I use now are chaos black spray and the blood for the blood god paint.
