Hello!

Does anyone know of any long, steampunk looking rifles for 28mm models with full arms? I already found the skitarii weapons, but would like a bit of variety. I am also looking for any steampunk styled heavy weapons or small machinery models.

Long story short, I am working on converting a Skaven army to work in 40K under the Skitarii codex. In order to keep to their existing appeal, I am trying to keep the jezzail style weapons and warp thrower type conversions as a strong theme for the army. I am looking for stuff like crystal cases for the warpstones, powder bags for the jezzails and other steampunk style items I can add to individual models. These would go a long way to making the conversions look complete instead of just a weapons swap.

I am looking at the Dystopian Legions KE-HO Ironclad to convert into a 'counts as' version of the Dunecrawler. I have also looked at the Tobsen77 monowheel as a counts as Sydonian dragoon, but the model is too short and doesn't really work perfectly. Again a source of steampunk items (pipes, weird lights, buckets) would be added to each model to make it fit the Skaven ideal.

I have looked at the General Grievous wheel bike, but cannot find any 28mm scale models of it. If anyone knows of any, please let me know where to find them.

I have spent the last few weeks scouring the interwebz for conversion ideas and realize that there is an almost limitless source of modeling parts to use. Perhaps appealing to a large audience might help me find more of these special items.

The Tau Kroot kits have always been a fairly solid source of rifles for Skaven.
The arms work fairly well as they are but I think they look a little better once they have been shaved down a bit with a cloak or shoulderpad.
The kit comes with loads of pouches extra knives etc that look pretty good.

Empire handgunners are a bit on the primative side but you can usually get 10 or more lang rifles for under $10 on ebay. Add a hose or something if you need more flair.

I have seen the Kroot modeled arms and they do make for excellent conversions. I have read that they have two thumbs? so there is some trimming needed, and the arms are somewhat longish for the tiny Skaven bodies. I am leaning toward using human sized arms and the Skittarri Galvanic weapons look like a good match. I did read they are slightly too wide apart for the plague monk models (I have lots) so I am looking for smaller options for them.

I took a look at Warlord Games and their Imperialist Infantry Regiment. I think the long rifles and pistols in that box could work for the plague monk models that will represent the cannon fodder troops. Hopefully the shoulders are closer to the required width so I don't have to sculpt too much around them. I am looking at an easy fifty of these guys to convert. I want to keep the process as simple as possible. Plus the Kit looks like it includes a bunch of adorable little hats to put on the little mouse people! I might be able to make my Skaven 40K army pirates!

Have you looked through the regular third party bits manufacturers? Like Kromlech and puppetwars?

The issue really with most of the 3rd party sites is the very distinctly Imperial style of most of the weapons. Flamers, meltaguns and the iconic boltgun. The effort to find weapons that do not look like Imperial issue is a real problem. Orkish weapons are also available, but again they look like Ork weapons. I have considered using the Veer Myn sprues from Mantic, but they do not hold to the Skaven style of long rifles. Although their close combat sprues do have lots of cool looking drill based hand to hand weapons.

Finding the warpstone driven, steampunk styled gear for a futuristic Skaven army has proved to be a fairly difficult challenge so far. On the upside, lots of sources of cool pouches are available.

Some distinctly non-imperial steampunk/cyber options.

I would personally take the maxmini rifles, buy some small watch cogs or steampunk brass etch and add them myself.

Those Maximini rifles are nice and they have some good heavy weapon options also. Their Displacement cannons or the Tesla cannons look like they could be converted to warp throwers with minimal effort.

I might look for some brass etch cogs to dress the weapons up. I will probably also get one of those greenstuff tube makers I have been reading about.

I am finally starting to receive my orders for weapons. I worked with some of the Skittarri rifles and am finding that with a little greenstuff, the arms can be made to fit nicely.

Today I managed to start a squad of rad carbine skavens. Backpacks, goggles and tiny cogs are still on their way to help steampunk these little space rats. I am also waiting on a box of minis from warlord games with a bunch of tiny pirate hats for the space rats. If the hats fit, I will be so happy!

My tech priest dominus / greyseer is going to get a ton of hoses, cogs and some mini-rat attendants on his base. Waiting on my greenstuff tube maker to arrive! I have two metal models that will end up as Vanguard alphas.

My progress so far is showing promise to make the arms work for these models. The Vanguard models are shaping up to be a fair force and I plan to create two squads of them. I hope the arms I plan to use from the Warlord game minis I ordered work as well for a large horde of Rangers.

Here you can see on of the Ranger models alongside the larger Vanguard models.

A small group shot of the two squads and some IC type models.
