So I decided to pick this one up, and from what I read about it when I asked if it was worth it, there's honestly certain ways to set up the models (with certain weapons and drones, etc.) that come with this kit that are far better than any other way they could be set up. Of course, I could magnetize everything allowing for switching out weapons. But, if there's one way to set up the Cadre that makes it truly stand out over the other ways it could be assembled/set up, I'd just rather do it that way. Just so much easier. And, to be honest, while I intend to take my time painting these models, I want to play this Cadre fairly soon (like maybe during Christmas week when I'll be on vacation). That gives me a little less than two weeks to assemble and paint six models (and their drones - which may be a bit tight on time).

Any advice on how to set them up? Is there one configuration that makes the Cadre just work better? Should I honestly take the time to magnetize them in case I want to make them part of a Hunter Cadre instead? Or, is the way to set them up for the Retaliation Cadre also the best way to set them up for the Hunter Cadre?

Thanks in advance

SG

Are you talking specifically how to model the exact models in the box set?

Otherwise here is my core cadre and I have used this in CADs before the formations even came out, much success.

Commander (I prefer fusion blade, but you might use a buffmander in TE, your call here)
Riptide, Ion, Fusion
x3 Crisis, 6 plasma rifles
2x3 Crisis, 6 burst cannons
x3 Broadsides, HYMP, Plasma rifles, 2 target locks

Depending on your commander this comes to 1000-1050 points. So its very flexible in different lists.

If you are just working with the box set, I would say, put Ion and Fusion on the riptide... if you field one riptide this is probably the variant your going to always use. The broadside again, HYMP and maybe just leave off the secondary until you know how you want to run it. Since it gains deepstrike, i like the plasma rifle. The crisis suits thats tougher as standalone.. you can't really go wrong with all plasma rifles.. or all fusion blasters.. or all misslepods.. or the misslepod/plasma rifle combo.

Hope that was somewhat helpful.

Cheers!

I'm sure I'll be adding to it as time goes on, but for right now, just the six models that come with the box. The Commander, the three Crisis Suits, the Broadside, and the Riptide. What's the best way to set up those six models so that they can be effective now and as I add models to the formation?

Thanks in advance

Didn't you say in a previous post that you had ordered three of those retaliation cadre boxes?

I read that post, but that was a different person. I would love to have three of them, but I only have one.

Magnitize everything of course but a general loadout should be something like
Riptide: Ion, Smart Missile System, Stim
Crisis 1: 2x Plasma
Crisis 2: 2x Fusion
Crisis 3: 2x Fusion
Broadside: High Yield Missile Pods, Smart Missile System, Velocity Tracker
Commander with 2x Plasma, Iridium armor, Stim, Shield Generator.

The end goal is to have 2-3 crisis suits making Fusion unit (target lock to split fire against multiple vehicles. 3+ crisis suits for plasma duty in a unit with the "Buffmander" (Command and Control Node, Multi Spec Scanner, Puretide Chip, Iridium armor, shield generator, Stim),
3rd crisis suit unit can either add more fusion for anti vehicle work, plasmas for anti armor, or even spam burst cannons for volume of fire. Personally I'm not a fan of Missile Pods as Broadsides handle the "Str 7 AP meh" shooting a lot better (and the Ret Cadre broadsides are relentless).
