We've started up a tradition with our daughter that for Christmas and her parent's birthdays, we take her to the game store and she picks out a Bones mini for mom or dad.

Of course, she likes to tell us how to paint them.

Well, this was one of those, she picked out a translucent green Banshee and tole me to paint it brown. I decided to see if I could use the clear green and incorporate it into the composition as a fade- kind of create some sort of wispy effect.

Here are my results.

Ha! That looks awesome - a great job on the transition.

(a) That is a very cute tradition.

(b) I think the paint looks fantastic; the fade looks great!

Great work. It's great when something like this just comes together perfectly. The sculpt and the material really lend themselves to your painting idea perfectly.
Hope your Christmas mini is just as cool.

Thanks.

She just went to the game store with her mother yesterday- and this time she didn't immediately come home and tell me what it was that she got me.

She must be getting older. Or distracted.

Have a few of the Bones translucent figs, but have no idea how to begin to paint them to leave at least some of the translucence intact. Any hints or techniques?

I love Reaper's Clear Brights, so I used some of the green to shade sections that I wanted to remain translucent.

I painted the opaque sections, then mixed the clear green with the opaque paint to create a blend between the translucent and opaque areas.

Thank you! Will give it a try.
