Hi guys,

My local gaming club is running a 500 point tournament, going up to 750 later in Jan. What are your thoughts on the below list?

Captain
Artificer armour
Thunder hammer
Combi plas

Tactical Squad
Plasma gun
Missile launcher

Morris contemptor
Twin kheres

500 dead on. I've tried to cover as many bases as possible, as with 500 points it's difficult to manage everything.

I don't think this list is battleforged, you need an HQ and 2 Troops.
I'd go with a cheap Librarian as hq, so you have more points for either 2x5 Tactical squads or some scouts. Also you have a good chunk of eggs in one basket with the contemptor, almost half your list and basically all the heavy firepower is down the sink if something shakes or blows it up.

I'd go the following instead personally, especially at this low points range -

Librarian
- ML2
- Shield Eternal
- Force Axe

(He costs 10 points less than your Captain, is capable of more, and Eternal Warrior)

I'd also swap the plasma gun for a flamer - you're more likely to face off against large numbers than you are 2+ armour saves at this points value, plus it's 10 points less.

A 5 man Devastator squad with 4 heavy bolters is 90 points less as well, freeing you up to take a squad of Scouts with camo cloaks and sniper rifles - they'll enable you to target specific threats and will open pincer style tactics for you, forcing your opponent to fight on 2 fronts.

With these swap outs, you'd still have 20 points left, so you could swap the shield eternal for the armour indomitus (and still have 10 points left over) , or whatever you fancy.

I wrote up a list on the fly

- Librarian lv2 with sword

- 5 tacticals with Meltagun, Razorback with TL HB

- 5 tacticals with Plasma gun, Razorback with TL LC

- Predator with Autocannon and Lascannon Sponsons
I tried to break up in various units the AT capabilities, so you have some backup if a unit gets destroyed. The predator puts out a decent amount of shots for its points. Or you can swap it for a dreadnought with Asscan

Thanks for the input guys, I'm hoping to use the models i already have to start the 500 (bac with extra contemptor, 1 tac squad and a commander). I could use my elder but am using it as an excuse to start a new army.

Librarian will likely take divination and hang back with the contemptor whilst the 3 tac squads go for objectives. I've taken the plasmas due to the range, flamers will be difficult to use effectively without transports, but if anyone thinks of a better way to use these let me know!

You could take a gamble on getting the psychic power that enables you to move a unit by deepstrike, though if you're randomly generating powers it's unlikely to come up for you. In that case, having him buff your dread may be the better tactic.

What models do you have? Just those specified in both lists I take it?
