So I'm going to order one of these awesome guys, but I can't decide which set of weapons to get! I'll eventually get both. I understand one is more of a long range gun and the other is the Fusion up close and personal set. I usually run Farsight Enclaves with pretty much all suits. What do you guys suggest?

One each i'd say. There is no reason to take 2 of the melta weapons, thats just overkill against anything that you'd want melta for. I could see several situations where you want it instead of the ion gun, but never 2 of them.

to not order it. It's one of the most broken units in the game.

I also want it to build and paint, not just playing in the game. I would also only use it against someone with an equivalent titan or GMC.

Not even a little! Did you read the rules or are you one of those "its forgeworld so it MUST be broken" people? If you think its even close to broken like a wraithknight or revenant, you need to go back and axtually read the rules.

i seriously thought for a moment you were being legit in saying its not op lol. Its the reason im debating hard on whether or not i want one - its an AWESOME model, but because its so ludicrously op for its cost (it rivals a biotitan for 400pts less....) im afraid its ~370USD i'd never get to use without feeling like a total dick lol

It rivals a biotitan mostly because they suck, not the taunar being overwhelming.
Comparing to imperial and eldar supers, he is not all that hot. Good, but not God.

As for arm cannons, I'd go for dual melta.
Against any target your primary works, the secondary hardly matters, but against enemy supers, you need the extra punch.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

Comparing it to nonsense does not make it balanced. Both of those units are abominations and should never have existed. That said for 600 points it's rules are still to good. It's standard output is 12 S7, AP3 shots plus a monstrous blast. At T9 it ignores most weapons, it has ten wounds and as a GC can't die instantly. VDS give it even more fire power and against shooting it has a 4++. The range of it's weapons are very long, and even in Melee it's no slouch due to it's stat line and GC rules. It cost more than two Knights and likely would cripple/kill both in one turn of shooting.

Forgeworld tends to be more balanced than GW prime but they got this one wrong.

Either way, I didn't ask if it was OP or not HoundsofDemos, just which loadout is better.

The ion arm still has three lascannons shots, so it may be better to stick with those.

I used to say the Tau'nar was OP till they dropped the Ordinatus Ulator.

As it stands it is the only thing in the game that can kill the Tau'nar and all of its supporting units in one shot, cannot be locked in combat is tougher to boot.

False, Grav Weaponry will devastate this thing with very little issue and Imperial armies in general are perfectly suited to kill this thing in multiple ways. Funny that we finally get a good FW unit to compete with Imperial Knight spam, Warhound Titans ect. and everyone complains about it.

As to weapons I have found that the standard ion gun to be much superior to the Melta in most cases, but I am getting both just because I can lol. I will be whipping out the giant Melta weapon when fighting an army containing multiple Imperial Knights for example.

19th Krieg Siege Army 7500pts.

Guys, let's stick to the original question.

I like the Ion arms better. I rather keep Meltas on my cheap Crisis

AI & BFG: / BMG: Mr. Freeze, Deathstroke / Battletech: SR, OWA / Fallout Factions: BoS / HGB: Caprice / Malifaux: Arcanists, Guild, Outcasts / MCP: Mutants / SAGA: Ordensstaat / SW Legion: CIS / WWX: Union

I know it is still off topic, but grav is more than one shot. When I said one shot, I meant like, a single "bullet", as it were. Not one shooting phase.

I like the idea of the ion gun, it gives a wider range of versatility over the melta.

The problem is the ion arms look SOOO STUPID. And looking cool matters with the big units, you won't use them as often because they are for larger games, so they inherently have more looking pretty on the shelf value.

Ion all day every day. You can melta anywhere, but a bunch of long range variable profile high str shots is unique to the big tuna.

Fusion arms look dumber to me than the ions. Both look cool but i'd say the ions look better.
