Hello my fellow hobby enthusiasts, with this year coming to a close and a new on beginning, I have decided to start a new 40K project but am seeking some guidance in its creation.
Idea:
A specialized force made by the Inquisition (Ordo Sepulturum to be exact), to fight the arising Zombie Plague around the eye of Terror. The army will have a Bio-Hazard/Rapid Response feel to it.
Army:
For the army I will start off with a Imperial Guard force most likely built around veterans and later on a force of Astartes seconded to the Ordo for the same purpose.
My question to you fine folks is how would you suggest going about building an army like this? I would also like to make it clear that this is going to be a fun thematic army. I am hoping to get a good conversation going to get the creative juices flowing.

Sounds like a fun project!
First thing that came to mind was this..
Tempestus Valkaryie formation - Essentially this concept to me is a QRF. I think Tempestus even look like a hazmat style warfighter with their combat gear.
Some other ideas that you could fit in..
Librarious Conclave - Zombie plague, eye of terror, sounds like you need some psychers of your own. Could add some nice bonuses to your force, along with a pretty cool HQ force.
Inquisition - Some Ordo inquisitors, maybe some troops if you want.
Assassins - I think including 1 or more could be a cool spin on things, depending on the threat level you want in your fluff.. since assassins are deployed in the most dire of circumstances.

I was planning on converting valkaryies into choppers and have a ground force in Tauroxes. My vision is a cross between modern day military forces and Adeptus Arbites. So the army would have the boots on the ground for the beginning of the outbreak which would escalate into more specialized units coming in as the disease spreads leading up to Astartes coming in when things get really bad haha.
Fluff wise, I'm looking at having "outpost" on the planets around the Eye that the Inquisition use to monitor the world's for signs of the Zombie Plague.

This sounds like a neat project. Make sure your troops have the Umbrella corporation logo as their army badge

I'd suggest lots of flame weapons. They're probably useful for fighting hordes of zombies, plus you might need to burn the ones you kill to stop the virus from spreading, or to stop them from getting back up again.

Flamers are a must of course,I like the idea of Umbrella Corp. And that's the type of look I'm going for, as for iconography I was think bout using transfers from Fall Out Hobbies and using the Bio-Hazard sheets...might even see about putting the Inquisitorial I in the middle of the symbol too. So flamers are for sure on the board but when it comes to other gear what would they use do you think? Granted I'll be playing against other armies too but sticking with the theme is more important than winning with this army haha. Weapon wise besides flamers...is a lot of solid shot and blast weapons. Blast those Plague ridden buggers to pieces and then burn but I could be talking crazy.

I think you can keep this fluffy and still have a pretty solid army list.
I would first decide what point level you want to design this around.. it is hard to come up with ideas on what you should bring for a game and be fluffy and not know how many points to work with.
plasma or melta weaponry I could see being viable.. I picture "DOOM" right.. some guys are just really big zombies and take more than a normal solid shot or flamer to take down.
Might consider some artillery pieces "for when the horde gets to big for the ground troops to handle"

Points wise I'm looking at getting to 1500pts first and then expanding after that.
I could see plasma fitting in but it wouldn't be in widespread use...they are guardsmen after all haha. I was also think about grenade launchers as a main stay as well.
When it comes to artillery I was leaning towards Wyverns, most likely a unit of 3 in the 1500 list.

Chimera w/ flamers as transports is probably what you want to go with for your average troop.
If you use Toraux (sp?) for your veterans that's probably fine as well (armored bus kinda of look to them)

I could go with the chimera and convert them with wheels. I just really like the look/feel of the tauroxes......theres a lot to think about moving forward. First time building a themed army.

Absolutely.
I am currently in the process of designing an Iyanden Recon Force. mainly because I like Iyanden fluff, but prefer more fast mobile forces.
I need to rework some of the points.. but essentially for my 2000 points:
Seer council
Rangers
MSU (2+1 special) windrider squads
2 Hornet squads
Fire prism
Crimson Wing
For larger games, I can always chuck in a WraighKnight.. Lords.. I also like to run Yriel with wraithgaurd in a "command" wave serpent.
I am almost done painting the entire force, and it looks amazing on the table =) Well worth the time and effort!

I'm hoping mine will be worthy of being on the table haha. Scheme wise I'm undecided on to go with modern military camo or Black Ops Black.

I immediately thought of Death Korp models when reading about your theme. Expensive through FW, but really awesome.

I'm leaning toward DKoK actually. Had thought bout Cadians for the urban organized look but Death Korps opens up more modeling choices I think..
