I've been really, really struggling doing those tiny helmeted faces and was wondering if anyone has any tips for how they do them? Especially since I'm trying to go for a pale skin tone.

Cheers.

How much details are you trying to do?

if you are only going for a pale tone, why not do the mid flesh tone you like, wash it down a little with watered down flesh wash of some sort to get the shading, then highlight it up pale

You can use this 'Pale' skin tutorial (more of a Caucasian skin tone) from Warhammer TV's recent advent calendar.

As a technical tip, I'd suggest painting faces before painting helmets. Smooth basecoat is essential to good looking skin tones and it is easier to paint smoothly if you don't have to worry about spilling paint into adjacent areas. This is especially true for colours that have coverage issues, including most skin tones.

WarhammerTV has Painting Cadian Shock Troops video tutorial that is worth checking out.

That place is the harsh dark future far left with only war left.

A shorter version I use which the video also uses alongside much more paint is - Rakarth Flesh then Reikland Fleshtone. That's it - quicker, cheaper and seems fine to me

Cheers for the responses! The videos were helpful.

Essentially, I need the helmeted heads too look consistent with the sergeant I've done, which was just cadian fleshtone, reikland, fleshtone again then kieslev flesh. Every time I've tried, the wash just pools way too much, so the brighter bits look weird... Maybe do the wash after the kieslev flesh instead?
