This was my second go at the new Bloodthirster. I used the lava tutorial GW posted last month and Im pretty happy with how it turned out, a nice simple method.

I also changed up my photography method for miniatures a bit, I think these pics look better than before, let me know what you think. I'm getting more accurate pictures with no color correction required.

Very nice! I like the lava base. And he's definitely a brute.

I dunno if it's the photos, but I'd have liked to see more true blacks/dark tones in the crevices in comparison to the bright glows.

Interesting. I like the dark grey skin tone and the overall monochrome look - relay well done.

However, the obvious air brushy-ness annoys me - the big yellow spots on the wings and over the top OSL pulls away from the model...

Im glad you said something, I switched to Vallejo's NATO Black recently for a few projects. I love the way it looks (personally), its got a lot of purple in the black and I'm sure Ill get tired of it eventually, but I bought two more bottles.

I'm sure its not for everyone, but its a phase.

Thanks, I wouldnt have thought of it had I not seen the GW tutorial.

*shrug* Unfortunately, thats the fork in the road that divides, I totally get where you are coming from. Its a taste thing, and I'm glad you like the monochrome feel to the flesh because thats what I personally would do for my own stuff.
The faux OSL works for the majority of people, and since its a for sale item, it fits the piece. Mostly, this just harkens back to my childhood and long games of Diablo.

Really nice job and I like the overall design.

But there are some things to criticise:

The yellow spots on the wings (lower side) look a little bit strange to me. I think you wanted the glowing symbols from the upper side to "glow through" the wing but from my point of view it would look better if they where not that obvious.

The other thing is details. Especially on the axe blade and the wing some well placed washes and edge highlighting are missing in my opinion. If it's a commission model (who else would paint two bloodthirsters :p ) I understand that this would be too time consuming.

Don't get me wrong. This model is really, really good, probably better than I could ever do.

Good feedback, I will say that the intention was not to 'glow through' although that would probably make more sense than what I did. I picture daemons has fluctuating, so I never even bothered making them correlate. Theres a ton of detail on this model, and
if I was really going for it there would be a lot to bring out, like you said. But I did it purely for fun and had some free time over the holidays, not as a commission and not as a personal army, so I detailed it as much as I wanted to, maybe not as much as I should have
for such a great mini.
