So I've stepped away from the hobby since August. Last time I was on Dakka and discussing the hobby in the real world the following was the case:
-Eldar had become recently broken to the extent that Spanish laughing man meme about balance had us all in tears.
-The Skittari-Mechanicus-Knight formation had begun to be the hot topic in tournament discussion.
-People were still struggling with Necron Decurion durability to the extent that the only decent counters put forward were to outmanouver them, as though wraiths and tomb blades and scythes don't exist (one of my 4 armies is Necron btw).
-Dark Angels had just been given audaciously good cover saves.
-R&Hs were an underappreciated power.
-SMs had just sh*t all over the previous BA release and got loads of free razorbacks.
-The 70% were absolutely screwed over by the 30%... Mirroring the RL Tory push on widening the equality gap here in the UK.

So I hear there has been a Tau release and it rates with the other 7.5 releases. Has there been any bone for AM, BA, GK, SW, CSM, CDs, DE, Inq, MT, Orks, Nids or SoB? Be it in dataslate or codex form?
It would save me scrolling through months and months of posts if somebody could do a quick summary of any new additions and I'd really appreciate it :-).
If the equality gap has been pushed further apart, I may wait a while and return in a year or twos time.

Although it is worth noting - my time has been spent on the Walking Dead Road to Survival mobile game. And if any of you thought GW were full of incompetance, a money grabbing ethos and a sheer disregard of their customer base... Well Scopely make them look like the fething Carebears!

It's happening, albeit slowly and imperfectly.

Basically, balance corrections move about as fast as the plot of the Walking Dead tv show.

Thank you. What ways have they tried to correct the inbalance so far?

I think only thing released since you've been gone has been a Cadia book, Raven Guard, WS, Tau, and some starter box formations.

They are cool releases at least.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Expect more superheavies and GMCs though, Tau got one and Tyranids will as well.

Has the Cadia book given the Guard some decent options to adress their poor quality?
Are the RG and WS dataslates or just models?
Have the Tau moved away from sit and shoot with their new release? In other words, can they actually function in maelstrom missions now?
Sorry about the 20 questions... just really interested.

I keep telling people there's a reason I came to GW. It's because the wasteland that is modern gaming. There's nothing out there. GW isn't great, but it is a lot better than the vast majority of video games and publishers. There's simply nowhere left to go in video game land for not crap games. It's a real rarity these days I get to use my big thousands of dollars (cad) gaming computer to its limits. Witcher 3 was the last PC game worthy of the title that I played. The majority of my gaming time last year was spent on my 3DS when I did game (majoras mask and monster hunter). The other good games I played on my computer had no need of a beastly machine like this.

I think the inequality is only becoming more pronounced. I certainly haven't seen anything resolving it. I know the ITC has been a big topic, as tournaments are moving to comp a game the makers have no interest in balancing.

I think most recently, there appear to be formations attached to the starter sets they're releasing. The starter sets are a good deal, but it sounds like the rule bonuses for buying them might be a bit silly. Of course, it's getting hard to things to get *that* much crazier!

EDIT: Oh, probably more important, GW brought out plastic versions of a number of 30k kits! They sell them as part of a board game, but they kits are pretty much all full kits (minus the Contemptor dreadnought). As such, there's been a huge uptick in all-things 30k.

Cheers for the responses guys! I'll have a check back in the morning to see if there are any more.

Honestly Poly it's getting pretty hard to follow.

RG/WS/Cadia/Tau all got their own Decurions. Lots of new formations, lot of craziness. The rules are creative and powerful but it continues the trend of obsoleting pre-7.5 books.

The best way to figure this out is probably Battlescribe or the Detachment/Formation/Relic index at Torrent of Fire.

IG got bassie Formation that can get ignores cover and their own decurion type Formation of formations, but unfortunately it is pretty unplayable at <2k if you want anything other than Russ spam, which steel host already does better, and the main Formation bonus is total junk.

Tau got Ranged str D missiles with markerlights and there was a huge uproar when their 1st decurion bonus let their entire army become a single unit and share all the buffmander buffs, depending on how you interpret the wording . ITC banned that with no playtesting which caused a second uproar though if that matters to you.

Tau got a second decurion style Formation for Farsight Enclaves replacement, has a Formation that gives 3 units of Riptides the ability to fire twice if they don't move once per game and they can reroll their Nova charge too. Another that gives drones BS3, interceptor, Jink, Outflank, Precision Shots and Split Fire, so, yeah, sod your deep strikers.

White scars got a couple of ok Formations, plus an ignores cover relic.

Ravenguard got a modified gladius style thing, plus some formations, one of which allows auto passing reserve rolls starting turn 1 and assault from deep strike with vanguard. Their big bonus is reroll deployment, board edge and sieze before the game starts.

Eldar are still broken, war convo still strong, gladius still strong in ITC and maelstrom, tau release blunted ravenwing shenanigans somewhat, Thundercav superfriends still works with no skills required etc.

The rich got richer, the poor got kicked while they were down by getting nothing, no csm dex this year, but probably new rubric models later 2016, spess woods new dex in February, and I think that's it.

Oh, skitari, sm, tau, nids, crons and IG all got a large discount starter box for reasonable prices, so hell is about to freeze over.

Welcome back.

Ninja'ed 6 times and I still forgot about calth and that the assassins are now available individually. Plus the tau got aun'va killed off for realz, so the story is actually moving forward a little.

They blew up fantasy and spent (wasted) tons of money releasing AoS which has, by most accounts, been a total flop and pushed the few remaining fantasy players to kings of war.

GW broke the glass in case of emergency and released 30k marines in plastic for stupid cheap. 30k has actually blown up in popularity lately. Part of it is due to the awesome models, the other part is the rules and balance in 40k have become so awful that 30k is the only ruleset still worth spending an afternoon gaming with.

GW announced the return of specialist games beginning in 2017. These will be handled by an extension of the FW studio (thank the emperor as GW would no doubt feth them up beyond any use other than as cool looking models). The first games on the list to redo are BFG, Necromunda and mordheim.

GW released their half year financial report showing (surprise) another loss in revenue despite the fastest release pace and highest item price in the history of the company, the multi million £ waste of a website on last year's books and the lower operating cost of switching nearly every store to a 1 man store open 30-35 hours a week. According to them, they lost revenue in the 11th straight half year report due to a strong British pound. I suppose the next report will show a lack of revenue due to global warming.

Eldar and Necrons are still cheesy. Space marines and Ad Mech have formations that give you hundreds of points in free models because reasons (buy more models!). Tau are slightly more cheesy than they were before, still less cheesy than they were in 6th.

GW released an FAQ for 7th that addressed literally zero of the largest rules questions. How many weapons can a GMC shoot? Well we have an FAQ but we still don't know despite James Bell telling me they had received plenty of emails and would be addressing it.

Thanks for the replies guys. I will have to look into these new formations and 30k! Cheers for pointing me in the right direction.
