So I'm looking at running a 2500 point list of Word Bearers wanted to see what everyone thought.

+++ Word Bearers Legion (2490pts) +++

+ HQ (395pts) +

Legion Centurion (120pts) [Artificer Armour (10pts), Charnabal Sabre (10pts), Tainted Weapon (15pts)]
····Consul (35pts) [Diabolist (35pts)

Zardu Layak (275pts) [Anakatis Kul Blade-slaves (100pts), Warlord]
····Master of the legion (Dark Brethren)

+ Troops (340pts) +

Legion Tactical Squad (230pts) [Dark Channelling (25pts), Legion Rhino Armoured Carrier (35pts), 9x Legion Tactical Space Marines (90pts)]

····Legion Tactical Sergeant (20pts) [Artificer Armour (10pts), Combi-Weapon (10pts)]

Legion Tactical Support Squad (110pts) Flamers [4x Legion Space Marines (60pts)]

····Legion Sergeant (10pts) [Artificer Armor](10pts)

+ Elites (835pts) +

Gal Vorbak Dark Brethren (245pts) [4x Dark Brethren (120pts), Plasma gun (15pts)]

····Dark Martyr (30pts) [Artificer Armour (10pts), Pair of Lightning Claws (20pts)]

Legion Terminator Squad (285pts) [Cataphractii Terminator Armour with Combi-bolter and Power Weapon, Dark Channelling (25pts), 4x Legion Terminators (120pts), 4x Pair of Lightning Claws (60pts)]

····Legion Terminator Sergeant (25pts) [Grenade Harness (10pts), Pair of Lightning Claws (15pts)]

Mhara Gal Tainted Dreadnought (305pts) [Tainted Power Claw with inbuilt Curs'd Boltspitter, Twin-linked Autocannon]

+ Heavy Support (470pts) +

Legion Sicaran Battle Tank (175pts) [Lascannons (40pts)]

Legion Spartan Assault Tank (295pts) [Laser Destroyer]

+ Lord of War (450pts) +

Lorgar (450pts) [Lorgar Transfigured (75pts), Master of the Legion, Primarch]

So my thinking is having dark channelling will give some good boosts to the basics troops as well as the Terminators. +1 strength termies or fear causing daemon ones is a nice bonus for 25 points. Zardu has some neat special rules plus I think he fits the theme for the army well. Plus the bonus of 2 awesome bodyguards. The special weapons squad and tactical squad will be there for the obvious fire support as well as the deadly sicarian tank. The Gal Vorbak can hitch a ride in the Spartan for reasons of being blown off the table if they foot slog.

The Tainted dreadnought is a great asset as I have used him before and he's wreaked some serious havok on the field.

Taking Lorgar transfigured was an obvious choice as I just don't think he's that good in his standard version. Harnessing charges on a 5+ bah weak sauce.

Anyways that's what I've got

Any feedback is much appreciated

I do not believe Yardu Layak is considered a chaplain, which means your army does not fill the Charismatic Leadership requirement.

He's considered a Diabloist so I believe that covers the requirement for the Dark Brethren ROW.

you need a chaplian and a diabolist. You can switch your consul to a chaplain and be fine though.

Yes, but so does Layak.

Neither of them cover the chaplain (or non-consul Centurion) requirement imposed by their Legiones Astartes rule, however.

Who are the compulsory troops choices? Not familiar with WB RoW but I am not seeing any repeats or anything I would associate with troops even in alternate RoWs.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

Just noticed that as well; Grave I'm afraid that Support Squads cannot be compulsory troops choices, your gonna need either another tac squad, a breacher squad or an assault squad, along with the chaplain.

As another Word Bearer player I recommend using a different Rite of War, The Dark Brethren is really a super situational anti-psyker force and with the minimal amount of psykers you encounter in 30k this won't help often. If you want allied daemons any of the WB characters bar Hol Beloth can give you that and the preferred enemy gimmick just isn't enough of a buff to justify not using a better rite of War in my opinion.

As far as the list itself, I love Zardu Kayak, I've used him twice now and he and the slaves are murder machines, they'll eat anything you throw them at, just make sure Zardu is protected.

As others have said, you need to amend the HQ section. Make Zardu the warlord and your second HQ either a Centurion or Chaplain and you're good to go.

Also, as others have said, you need to amend your troops you can't have a support squad there as it doesn't count as a compulsory troops choice. Layak makes Ashen Circle troops though so you can still spam templates, albeit hand flamers.

Holy Terra.

Ghal Varbak can be slaughtered by well-protected Units in Close Combat. Terminators with LC are deadly, so pick your Targets well. Large squads of weak models and artilery are good Targets, so Ghal Varbak make good Tank Hunters.

Key thing to remember: Gal Vorbak are I5. They strike before almost all other melee units. Thanks to Rending even melee Terminators can be a viable target if you're careful, desperate, have psychic support or the like.

Okay so thanks for the good feedback everybody. Much appreciated.

I totally didn't notice the Chaplain requirement for DB ROW again I rely on battlescribe too much I think

I think I ground up redo is in order.

Maybe switch out the ROW for Pride of the legion

Take the tac squad and 5 lightning claw termies

Keep the Diabloist centurion

Take a Praetor with cataphracii armor, hammer and combi plasma

Put the gal vorbak in the Spartan and the termies in a drop pod? Or am I allowed to take a pod for the termies?

Uhm... Have you read the rules at all outside of battlescribe?

The chaplain or non-consul centurion requirement is built into the Word Bearers Legiones Astartes rule. Your RoW is irrelevant.

Dakkadakka is not a rulebook, so for questions like whether you could take a drop pod for terminators, you'd best consult it instead.
