Hi all, quick question came up and I've been frantically looking through the 5 books for info, but I've hit a rock.

I want to add a knight lancer to my salamanders but its not the same as 40k I believe.
This is because the knights fall under their own list now (questoris knights)

I initially only wanted a single knight as my lord of war, but now is where I've hit the snag.

The only way I can see to take a lancer is an allied detachment of questoris knights, but this requires a HQ knight and a troop knight, so I'm paying a 400 or so point premium for an extra knight I don't need.
The only plus side is these are no longer a lord of war choice.

My other option is the leviathan chart instead, meaning the core of the army is a single lord of war, which you can then ally a small detachment too.
This is good, but the allies are rather limited so not good for me.

Has anyone found a legal way of tagging a single knight into a chapter please?
Just want a knight running along side my assault heavy salamanders.

Worded case though, I'll have to bite the bullet and grab a castigator to go with it.

Thanks in advance.

You cannot take a knight as the Leviathan LoW. I believe it's 9 hull points or greater to fill that spot.

Have you thought about taking Draykavac as the Knight HQ, then one knight as the troop? He is still pricy in points, a bit over half the cost of a knight.

I forgot that, so its warhound minimum then as 3 structure points = 9hp if I'm correct.

I saw draykavac, but it states in his entry that he can only be taken by a traitor legion, so not an option for my salamanders.

Ah, yes, that. You would need two Knights then. I know most of the Legiones Astartes super heavies are 9 hull points. Not sure what the Warhound is, but I would say it is 9 or higher in the hull point department.

Dedicating over 800pts in two Knights as allies is not a bad thing, not a route I would take though.

We are starting out at 750 points on a smaller board, then expanding from there.
Plan is to get up to 2,000 fairly quickly, but that's half my points gone in knights nearly at that stage.

Currently I'm running a chaplain, 2x 10 man TAC squads and a doredo with plasma and the some upgrades on the chappy and units.

I may just have to bite the bullet and try 2 knights in 2k and see what impact it has.
Just need to pick cheaper toys for the sallies and hope the knights lift their weight a bit.

You cant have a LoW until you reach 2000 points so you have time. That a lot of points in an army which is already under manned against an army which usually doesnt have a lot of issues with AV.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

I would look at taking some Legion super heavy options, not a knight.

I know dash, but when taken as allies the knights aren't LOW choices.
So the 2k restrictions doesn't come into play.

The main reasons I'm going for the knight is because I own a lancer and because I want some use from it really.
Seems pointless having a £175 table ornament sat there.

Also, its not the most competitive environment as its more of drinking and relaxing while gaming type of thing.
So I'm not too worried as I doubt anyone will be bringing any solid tournament lists to games.

Was just hoping there was a way to take the knight as a LOW so in 2k games it only uses 1/5 of my points.

Correct, they are taken as an allies force, not as part of your LoW choice. Unfortunate that Draykavac is traitor only, that would have kept the points as an allies force a big smaller.

Lol,any chance you are building a traitor Legion force to use I with.

Salamanders unfortunately.
And a large enough army thus far that I don't plan on changing them lol.

Draykavac is land raider cost though for a somewhat poor model anyway.
So I'd rather pay the premium and have a useful knight for slightly more.

If you're taking Draykavac you might consider taking the Automata he unlocks; Castellax as Troops and Vorax as Fast Attack

I can't as he isn't allowed in loyalist chapters :(

I did however bite the bullet and decided I need a second knight so I could run them and ally to my salamanders.
However, I ordered the castigator to go with my lancer and while on the FW site I saw the atrapos aswell.
After some reading I saw it was pretty damn good so ordered one of those too.

So now I may be running a questoris list with some allied salamander bodies lol.
Escalated a bit too quickly though.

Awesome! Throwing money at this problem made it go away. Well done, lol.

On a side note, you now have me putting the Salamanders as a high probable as my next Legion.
