Yep, 4-day badges by $10.

They can certainly get it if their attendance is any clue.

Ah yes, I'll update the title.

Need a badge of you're doing Gencon housing.

Although, can't one also just call up the hotel and book a reservation? I know Gencon has a housing block reserved, but I'm pretty sure the hotel also has other rooms available too.

If only it was that easy... then there would never be a housing crunch at Gencon.

Just went to the website, and apparently it IS that easy. JW Marriott is about $700/night though, and almost sold out.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I've always stayed offsite(Best Western ftw) so I've never bothered with the attached hotels.

If you're willing to pay rack rate, then you can always get a room. That JW through the gencon block will be about $250 a night. I find it easier to just book a room out by the airport and uber in and out than fight the housing portal.

Yeah last year my wife and I waited till june to buy our badge and book a hotel with it, and got the new Holiday Inn out by the airport for like 125 a night. We drove in every day and really only paid about 10 bucks a day for parking instead of the 25 overnight rate, because we didn't mind walking a couple blocks to get to the Con. We did have buddies in one of the attached hotels, and used his room for a drop/break site during the days, so that was nice.

The rush starting tomorrow just seems like a pain, and I don't particularly want to pay extra for the convenience of being super close. More moolah for adding to my gian paint queue!

This was unexpected. I got a time of 1:05 this year and decided to login on a lark. Lot of downtown rooms available still, but they were all Kings. Eventually found a double/double at the Sheraton City Center, so looks like I'm finally not out by the airport.

Wish I could go again, but my group won't be returning this year. Cash is tight so we're saving to make the return adventure in 2017.

As a group of 4, housing further out was nicely affordable (I think it was like $160 a night for a room with 2 queens, a fold out couch (that was pretty awful) and space for an inflatable mattress), but the issue became scheduling. With one car between us, we were kind of stuck with *everyone* (who didn't want to pay a $30+ Uber bill) having to be up and out the door for the earliest event in the group, and being stuck waiting around until everyone was ready to go back for the same reasons.

It wasn't the end of the world, and if we'd been willing to throw more money at transportation (2 cars or Ubers/Taxis) it'd have been less of an issue, but after doing that once, the idea of getting a room or two downtown (even at a higher price per person/night) and being able to just roll out of bed and hit an event, or head back to the room for a nap between events, or not have to worry about late evening transportation (which lead to my having to bail on the Concert Against Humanity at intermission) holds immense appeal.

$250 a night downtown would work out. $750 a night would not, unless one of us hits it big in the next 12 months. Especially if we're only getting 2-3 to a room (assuming a single Queen and enough space to cram an air mattress).

Our crew has a few simple rules(we stay offsite as well, and park at Circle Center Mall)-

1. No events after 6 unless 2 or more are attending.

2. No events before 10.

3. No events on Thursday.

So far those have seen us through without anybody being bent out of shape. We usually leave the hotel at 6:30-7am every morning, and leave whenever everybody wants to crash at the hotel.

My card!

I couldn't help it the last two years, I started dental school (after having worked for some years) and have been quite involved on that end, so much that both weekends GenCon was here I had inescapable obligations.

I DID make it to the comedy show Cards Against Humanity put together at the Murat Theatre downtown last year, THAT was definitely money well spent!

This year I'm wanting to actually make it into the halls (and have some discretionary money to make some purchases!)

Compared to last year, there aren't a lot of events jumping out at me this time around. Probably cross my fingers and try to get into one of Angel's classes and some of the historicals seem interesting, but otherwise might be killing a lot of time at Battletech.

I believe not all events have been submitted yet. Keep checking throughout the week(or until Gencon) as they keep adding things.

If anyone's interested, I'm running a handful of events for Endless: Fantasy Tactics throughout the weekend, a few narrative campaign events, some battle royales, and a tournament. All of them are newbie friendly except the tournament, though knowing who might be showing up to that, it's still pretty newbie friendly.
