So im experimenting on some basic scout marines with Thousand Sons colors. I sprayed them Black, Two layers of red, but my questions now is how the $%@## do i do the gold trims? the gold im using wont over power the red underneath. It ends up looking like watery gold on top of red.
Advice please

Retributor armour my friend
Paint them with a medium shade brown first then the retributor armour will cover it nicely.

I usually apply a layer of brown as basecoat before applying the gold and it's always worked like a charm.

That is a good way to do it. I do Balthasar Gold before any other gold(ish) color layers and It seems to work as well. You can look at my gold (Liberator gold is the finishing colour) in my Imperial Fists VIIth Legion - WIP

Exactly
Just make sure that you build up your metallics from brown.
