Would this work -

Buffmander (drone controller, target lock, C&C Node & Multi Spectrum Sensor Suite) with 2 marker drones attached to a squad of crisis suits.

Is he then allowed to confer his twin linked + ignore cover nonsense to the Crisis Suits who will then shoot at enemy unit A, while having his two drones shoot their marker lights at enemy unit B using target lock and Drone controller (unit B will then be shot at by a different friendly unit using the markerlights)?

Basically, can the commander confer his target lock to his drones while he attached to a squad?

Feels a bit cheaty to me but is it legal?

(no one has tried this against me, I'm trying a Buffmander list for the first time and the idea came to me).

No, only the commander would benefit from TL. But you can just put TLs on the Crisis suits and get the same result.

I'm sure you can somehow support that view with the rules?

Target Lock affects the model with the Wargear only. Drone Controller only accesses BS of the controller, not the Wargear/Special Rules of the Controller.

Very simple.

Are you a Wolf, a Sheep, or a Hound?

Apologies, the TL part threw me off. I read that as Twin-Linked

It's perfectly fine for the drones to shoot one target with commander's BS and the crisis suits another (with target locks), benefiting from the buffs.

This is actually one of the core concepts behind Farsight Bomb type lists.

Nowadays, with Crisis Teams being a 1-9 sized unit, you'd do something like this...

Buffmander w/(among other things) a Drone Controller
9x Crisis Suits with 2 weapons of choice and a Target Lock each
20x Gun Drones (18 from the Suits, 2 from the Buffmander)

The unit chooses a target for shooting. All of the Gun Drones shoot that target at BS5 (thanks to the Commander's Drone Controller) and get the full array of Ignores Cover, etc. from his buffs. That's 40 S5 AP5 Twin-Linked, Ignores Cover, Pinning shots at BS5. Each Crisis Suit then uses its Target Lock to pick a different target for its weapons. Same deal, gets all buffs. You can ruin a person's day using this.

You could just as easily attach a basic Buffmander to a unit of Crisis Suits and have all the suits pick Marker Drones. The downside is that all of the Drones have to target the same unit, so you couldn't spread the Markerlight Tokens around.

That makes more sense, still seems powerful but not overly so for the points. Thanks!
