So for those of you have attended 30k events at the big tourneys, I have a few questions.

1.) I'm assuming WYSIWYG is still in play. But if I brought my 40k converted Tac. Marines, would people say they aren't WYSIWYG because they are newer Mk armor?

2.) Are the events more casual?

3.) Which events would people suggest playing in?

Generally having mk 7 marines enmass is frowned upon, but due to the sheer amount of costs of FW generally it is allowed, Unless an event specifically prohibits it. Generally if you have 1 or 2 models to proxy in using a plasma gun or an HQ, usually no one will look twice.

I'd say so, theres not a huge amount of rules to keep track of and it is generally balanced. Again, this really depends on your local environment.

Play in local events, its supports your community and grows interest for 30k

Standard answer: ask the TO.
If it's the case that you already have 40k marines and are unable to fork out to get nice FW stuff then i think that generally people won't mind; most people have been down on their luck financially at some point or other.
I've always maintained that re-tasking 40k marines is a great way to try out 30k since a lot of marine units have direct equivalents in M31 - bikes, dreds, pred's, LR's, etc.
But i can see a TO wanting to take photos to publicise the next event or do a large battle report, so i think that it's reasonable of them to say no but i would hope an exception could be made in the name of community spirit.

the players tend to be in it for the fluff

Same as above - keep it local and friendly.

I'd hope the events would be more casual, but since Calth dropped, I woundn't count on it.

Only the most snobby of people "frown" on the use of MK VII armor (especially since it was technically in use during the late heresy). Same goes for vehicles, as nearly every 40k vehicle (in it's current form) was used at one point in the heresy or another.

Not sure on which events, but I would play local and hope that it plays like 30k, and not "40k, but with more marines, MSU FTW!"

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

It's always a Good idea to ask the TO first but a hard core fluff nut probably won't mind repurposed units as long as they are the mirrors of the 30k unit.

A great many 40k units are around in 30k we just don't see them, for example the deimos pattern vehicles are just that, separate pattern vehicles. The current Rhino for example is Just the Mars pattern as the deimos chassis got phased out but both were alive and kicking. Same goes for preditors. The Land Raider phobos is just the modern day Land raider. So put some work into the paint. And you should be fine.
