I'm a bit confused as to how to create a Battle-forged Eldar army, or any army with formations for that matter. I have a list that is combined arms detachment, and two formations: aspect host and seer council. Army Builder says this is not Battle-Forged, which is fine, but what would I need to change in order to get to that point?

I searched the codex but can't find any obvious answers to this question, other than using the "Craftworld Warhost" set up but even then I had some issues with the armies not being shown as battle-forged in AB when I thought they were.

It should be the software problem.
Any army entirely composed of detachments is battle-forged

Does that include an army consisting of 2 formations (Seer Council and Aspect Host) and a combined armed detachment?

Of course it does. Formations are also detachments.

Can the formations, listed independently of the CAD/Warhost detachment, result in it still being battle-forged? I've been confused on this also. It would make it very difficult/impossible to take a seer council in a battle-forged CAD by defining it just as "a collection of specific units" because it consists of 3 HQ choices.

Edit: I feel like that doesn't seem right, because it would just result in willy-nilly adding of wraith constructs or whatnot as cheese to the CAD.

Point #1 - EVERY software army builder has problems and makes mistakes. Use them as convenience tools to replace pen and paper, but ALWAYS validate the list against your Codex.

Point #2 - To be Battle-Forged, every unit in your army must belong to a Detachment or Formation.

You can certainly build a Battle-Forged army using a CAD paired with one or two Formations. You could even use multiple CADs or forget the CAD entirely and just run Formations.

Wraith Constructs is not a formation. It is something called Army List Entry, as the codex says, which is not an independent detachment.

Wraith Constructs is not a formation. It is something called Army List Entry, as the codex says, which is not an independent detachment.

Actually it is an Auxiliary Choice that lists ALE entries just like the Necron Star God Decurion Choice.

Still the same end result, though.

Are you a Wolf, a Sheep, or a Hound?

Not sure which army builder you are using, but in order to have a similar list using BattleScribe, I had to edit my forces, add a CAD and a Formation detachment. It validates that way. As Kriswall said, though, even BattleScribe has errors. Use it as a tool, not a crutch.

2000 Khorne Bloodbound (Skullfiend Tribe- Aqshy)
1000 Tzeentch Arcanites (Pyrofane Cult - Hysh) in progress
2000 Slaves to Darkness (Ravagers)

Is it possible you are trying to use the same unit in both a cad and the formation? As per page 116 or 117 each unit may only belong to a single detachment.
