So I had an idea. There should be a variation of the Stormraven for Grey Knights and Blood Angels(the original chapters with SRs) that can hold a Rhino-sized tank instead of a Dreadnought. They could carry around a Rhino or Predator tank and drop it right in the midst of battle. Perhaps the SR would have a reduced transport capacity or none at all.

What do you guys think of that?

I think if this was a thunderhawk, fine, but I don't think it could be done with a stormraven. Also if your raven gets hit and you lose your predator, that's a lot of points gone down the tube..

The Rhino-pattern tank would be attached under the wings of the SR, but yes, you could conceivably have troops inside a Rhino/Razorback. That is true that if the SR would blow up that you could potentially lose your tank.

I think the SR would probably not have any transport capacity to fit the tank underneath. The cost would probably be similar as the SR would be losing the ability to transport 12 troops and a Dreadnought. Weapons would be the same.

Lengthen the Tail of the Stormraven had clamps or cables and you can then fit the rhino.

Definitely. It would basically fill the same role as the Thunderhawk Transporter, but drop smaller tanks individually.

I think it is a great idea. Would be nice if it was unique to Blood Angels and Grey Knights. I still find it ridiculous that vanilla marines all of a sudden got Stormravens that only BA or GK's had for no adequately explained reason that I know of, yet Blood Angels didn't get fun vanilla toys such as the Thunderfire Cannon or Stormtalon :-(

Cut the passenger cargo in half (6 models, still a useful number) replace the dread with a rhino hull? Sounds balanced.

Generally you don’t want tanks that far up the field. What’s the worst thing you could do with this? Drop a Vindi into someone’s lap. Sure, that’s going to leave a mark, but it’s a huge point investment to get it there.

I would say that the Stormraven should completely lose the ability to transport other units and only carry the tank, as from a design point it would be awkward to fit a troop compartment down there and a tank is much larger than a dreadnought.

The ideal tanks to carry would be Razorbacks, Baal Predators, and Vindicators. It just so happens that these all are the tanks that fit the combat style of Blood Angels the most. And yeah, it will leave a mark, but it comes at the cost of a lot of points.

I'd say it can't carry troops, but then to make it more worthwhile as a unit, I'd specifically change the weapon load out on it, underslung weapons on the wings not just rockets. Equip it out more like an area clearing unit, so the tank is going to be safe from infantry around it for a while. And say make most of these weapons only really viable within hover mode, so flame storm cannons etc.

Then the other special rule would be it can pick tanks up whilst zooming with no penalty. Rapid re-deploy anyone?

Whether this would be actually useful rule wise I couldn't care less, it would be great on the table top though in a friendly game.
