I think you'd be better off building up pretty much any other army. In friendly games they aren't fun at all and a lot of tournaments don't allow IK period. Plus there's not a whole lot you can do with it. Knights have very limited configurations so you'll end up playing the same thing every week more or less. What I kind of like about the new 40K is the addition of formations. I've started several armies but most never got past 1k worth in points. Thanks to formations I can now take up to 3, typically at most tournies, and come up with all kinds of interesting combos. Right now I'm running a Tau Retaliation Cadre with my crons and it only has 14 models in it.
