Hey guys, gonna try to throw together a list so i can play some 500 point games with my friend. I've been mostly just painting in the hobby so he's gonna teach me to play.

So I need to get something down to play and get it painted up before the weekend after next.

So I got like 25 cultist, the dark veng lord, about 20 chaos tacs, the 5 or 6 chosen, about 6 hellbrutes, 5 spawn, 2 rhinos, 5 termi's, a land raider, a helldrake, 2 mauler fiends, 5 havoks, and 6 oblits in my chaos collection now. I'm just starting to paint the cultist as I just decided to stick with Crimson Slaughters.

So help me throw together a nice learner list. I think he will be playing space marines for it as well.

Here's something that could work, it's not great, but it has a variety of things in it to get someone somewhat familiar with different aspects.

unfortunately I don't have a sorcerer and was hoping to build it with the lord for now.

The figure will work the same as a sorcerer, I was assuming you would use it. There's no reason you can't call it a sorcerer. If you don't like that then just make the same list by removing the sorcerer and replacing him with:

....Mark of Nurgle, Power Sword, Plasma Pistol

The plasma pistol sucks but I know the model has it, and sounds like you want it to be exact. I'd still use it as a Sorcerer though.

Edit: And for the future there is one of the DV chosen with a Power Maul that works well as a Chaos Sorcerer with a Force Staff.

Naw I feel what you are saying, and I'm not trying to make this chaos army a WYSIWYG. I might try it, but I was honestly worried since I haven't really looked at the spells or whatever for the sorc. I have no clue how that works at the moment.

Fair enough, the Lord will work fine but is not terribly powerful without being on a bike. Good enough for a 500 point learner game though.

yeah i was looking at the deamon heart or whatever to give him the 2+ armor save and the It will not die rule. That sounded pretty awesome.

It's very good, but at 500 it's a bit too expensive at 30 points alone.

For bigger games (probably getting to 1000) it becomes quite nice. The tried & true lord loadout is:

Chaos Lord [200]
....Mark of Nurgle, Bike, Blight Grenades, Sigil of Corruption, Powerfist, Lightning Claw

It's still a bit expensive at 1000, so usually I cut the Daemonheart until higher points. My lord usually dies to AP2 or by becoming a spawn when he wins a challenge thanks to the lovely Boon Table.

I feel you. I just figured *going by memory* instead of putting the points (15?) into a plasma pistol which is meh like you said, I'd put 30 into making him a bit tanky. But I understand what you mean. I was thinking of running like 20 cultist as that's like only 90 points. Or running 2 groups of cultist and a hellbrute for that formation rule.

not really sure. Lots of different things I can do. I could be an ass and bring the hell turkey but i'm not really wanting to burn my bridges lol

I think I'm gonna try your first list you showed me. It is very diverse and should be relatively easy to paint before weekend after next.

So got my models assembled and only the marines need priming and I got to get them painted.

The collection is looking great - keep up the good work!

Thanks guys, I'm shooting to have a table top standard done by this weekend. My buddy who is going to teach me to play wants to play at the local shop on Saturday. So I'm trying to get them ready.

If you check back in this week on this thread I'll be posting some updates on it.

Also, lol his list is 501 points so he is giving me an extra 5 points.

What you guys think I should spend it on hahaha. I was thinking of upgrading the marines from the melta to plasma rifle. Think this is ideal?

In no way do I ever think Plasma is an upgrade to Melta. I hate plasma honestly, some other people disagree with me so you can make up your own mind about it as you get some experience.

I think Melta gives you more choices since it's an assault weapon, S8 lets you insta-kill T4, and you can damage any vehicle and have a good chance of blowing them up. Plasma is better in some limited cases, but with the risk of killing yourself I don't like it.

I'd just toss Melta Bombs on your sorcerer for 5 points.

that's cool, yeah I have no clue what all that means at this point in time. but it really seems to come down to what he is bringing in his 500 list. If a couple vehicles then yeah melta seems a good bet, but if he is sticking a couple squads of tacs in there I think the plasma might be better, since it also has a rapid fire as well and they (tacs) don't get an armor save vs plasma do they?

Had my first real game today. We ended up going all 6 rounds and tied at the end. I got First blood and he got line breaker.
My friends Soul Drinkers vs my Crimson slaughters. Army still isn't painted all the way, I got so busy and lost interest in painting this week sadly.

Interesting tid bits. He ran 2 squads of bikes. 1 squad of 3 with melta's, another squad of 3 with grav guns with his white scars lord, and then 3 speeders in some kind of formations, had multimeltas on them with assault cannon on one.
Needless to say I had a hard time with them. 50% of my army couldn't even damage his speeders. And his HQ was rolling stupid amounts of protection.

I had the iniative and set up. He did his scout move for the white scar stuff. He got close with his melta guys to my cultist/sorcerer group. I hit him with my Spontaneous combustion and popped the middle guy, then the 2nd affect went off and hit killed both his other bikes lol.



So first blood. Rest was rather down hill.. other than the 2 spawn taking on his commander and bike group. First round 1 spawn bit the dust. The other had 2 wounds left on him. He then charged the group of 4 bikes. All overwatch misses. They all swing at him b/c of higher int... so I'm down to 1 wound. Surprised he lived, my friend hit and run them away. Next turn I then ran him right back to them again. All overwatch misses and he gets 6 attacks. I end up killing 1 of his bikes with the spawn before the spawn went back to the warp.



The rest of the game was rather rough. Most of my psy attacks missed horribly and did next to nothing.

My dudes got hammered. I did end up getting into CC with his speeders with my mauler fiend... it made short work of 2 of them causing them to blow up. Which took out my aspiring champion and about 3 cultist. But at the bottom of turn 6, I had a rhino with a weapon blown off and 1 hull point left, and my sorcerer with full hp. He had his commander, and one speeder with 1 hull point left. We went through both shooting and assault fazes and didn't make a single wounding hit.



Ended in a tie.

Cool, hope you had fun. Try Telepathy next time, Psychic Shriek is really good at killing bikes. Pyromancy is a bit lacking.

Using WS for a first game with all the cool stuff? Sounds like a right scumbag to me.

I'm not really worried about it, he brought what he had you know. I think he runs mostly bikes and air stuff with some heavy armor as well.
Plus he took it really easy on me. I could tell he wasn't trying to table me.
