Ok so I'm relatively new to the hobby and got a second hand copy of the 7th edition codex from a friend and was looking at the elite choices, namely the standard Wolf Guard. Now looking at them they dont seem to be worth their points since they're just Grey Hunters with an extra base attack and access to Combi weapons.

However I was considering with their access to bikes they might be a good option over their swift claw FA choice or an ok tank popper that would arrive via drop pod. Is there any real use for them or are they just a fluff unit?

So besides running with a pack of Bloodclaws or Grey Hunters for the LD boost you don't recommend using WG at all?

Besides the option of using them for the extra special weapons/LD on a squad is there any tactics for them that might be fun? I mean they could pull a DP with max combis to tank pop or wipe a squad via flamers or plasma? There's also the option to jump pack or bike the squad is that a viable option?

Kind of a pity as I was thinking of an entire bike squad running with 7/8 frost swords / bolt pistols with 2/3 SS and FS. They seem likely to be an overlooked option to run with a TWC mini bomb

Ok so I played a small game (1500pt) with a friend's Wolvesagainst his DA bike spam and proxied the bikers in 5 man squads as he suggested to use a formation from a supplement, not entirely sure req'd 2 elites instead of troops.

The WG shouldn't be underestimated especially in heavier cover/terrain games. Honestly even with him getting hit and run with unnerving regularity, the WG ended up taking out far more of them thanks to hitting on a 3+ and wounding on a 4+ instead of him needing a 4+ and 5+ to hit and wound. Well that and all the Ap 3.
