I'm ordering up a bunch of resin grav bits for some bikes I'm building and I'm wondering this: Is a combi-grav on the sergeant worth the points? These will probably be minimum sized squads to start. I can see the potential for arriving from reserves or making a major scout move at the beginning of the game, getting one turn of really good shooting on a prime target, and then becoming a target for the opponent's shooting, getting munched in assault, or needing to go grab an objective... but is that first turn of grav shooting so essential that it is worth adding one extra shot?

If you got points to spare, it doesn't hurt. You have to think on whether or not those 10 points can be spent elsewhere.

If you have two bikers in the squad with grav guns then I would absolutely take a combi-grav or grav pistol on the Sergeant to add to that grav shot volume (they will be firing the full salvo amount of shots). Worth every point giving it to the Sergeant.

Minmax choice?
Combi grav or meltsbombs
Something i found out i like?
Vet sgt with Lightning Claw or Power Fist. Concuss a multi wound dude and then finish the job with a charge. But i usually take 5 bikers to give them a couple extra wounds.

I'd say it's worth it. It may only be one shot but that little boost in fire power can tip the scale. Realistically it's rare to get more than maybe 3 or 4 rounds of shooting per unit before it either dies, gets caught up in assault or is just out of range.

That sounds fairly unanimous... after one round of shooting, the Sarge will be an easy first casualty to give up, but hopefully he'll get his points back every few games with a well placed shot. My local group just started the conversation about unleashing the big stuff (Knights, GMCs, etc.) now that more armies have access to them, and I feel like some biker grav will help me stay competitive.

Yup, I agree about the combi-grav. Possibly also melta bombs, just in case. I find that melta bombs are one of those things an opponent forgets about, especially an opponent using MCs. (That is, if they don't see Eldar or Orks a lot...)

I've almost always made my points back from combi weapons if I get the shot off. Anything you want to punch out with a grav shot is probably more expensive than the combi

It can be worth it, but I wouldn't say it's a must-have. Put the rest of your list together, then see if you have any spare points you can't use.
