Chaplain Cleverus Girlus

The first character of my Raptors army. Zenithal + standard highlights. Going for a toned down, grim look befitting of the chapter.

Thanks fellas. I can't wait to play the army, I will be using the Talon Strike Force for some basic troops with tactical advantages and reliable melee, I imagine playing them will be a lot of fun.

Yeah that green is very nice, love the base too, but did you really call him/her 'Clever Girl'?

Yes!

Regarding the green cloth, it's basically just Army Painter Army Green that has been highlighted with 2 different, lighter shades ( by mixing white ) - the lighter the shade, the smaller the area.

^Thanks fellas.

Assault Squad ready:

Same techniques as before such as zenithal highlights. Details include 2 layers of scratches and battle damage, rust, dirt, blood.

Each marine has the exhaust effect seen in the picture, a blue glow. I used multiple washes and glazes on the powerarmour to achieve a varying shading, fitting that of a deathworld jungle fighting marine.

*picks jaw of the ground* Simply gorgeous work! Smooth paintwork in the perfect shade of green and those bases are amazing!

I was JUST about to start work on an assault squad for my raptors army and this is a HUGE inspiration!

2 questions:

The white triangle on the guys helmet...is that to mark the sergeant? Is this canon?

How come no assault markings on the right shoulder pad?

Thanks mate. I'm glad you like it.

1. It's the sergeants mark yes. Canon depends on how you look at it; it's not the "official" mark, however Raptors in canon care very little for Codex Astartes as described in their IA -book and do pretty much what they want.
2. To save hours, the workload with these details is currently ~7 hours per marine. There are 40 more marines to paint.

Those are really nicely done. Love the camo style.

Can I ask how you did the bases? I showed these to my buddy who is working on some Catachans and he was really interested in the bases in particular.

Trying to convince him that Raptors would make a seriously cool allied detachment.

Thanks. The bases have a piece of thin (3mm) cork glued at the bottom, and then flock glued on the ground level and randomly on the top aswell. The plants are from aquarium plants, which have been cut separate (before which, I airbrushed the whole plant to a toned down colour with 2 different shades; they are way too plastic looking and bright by default.)

The structures are the default ones from the assault squad box, but you can use any piece of debris really. To those I added some rust with Vallejo Oxide Paste. After that, I gave the bases varying texture by using Army Painter Dead Grass and Vallejo Light Sienna dirt pigment and ofcourse drybrushing the flock with a lighter brown.

I hope that's useful and good luck in your attempt of persuasion, I must say the Raptors are so much fun to play.

Great work! Always love seeing your models Runic. The weathering is very nicely done. Are you still using the Army Painter quickshade on these?

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Hey there Bottle, and cheers. I'm not using the quickshade on these, as I wanted to do a project that is painted in the "normal" way for a change.

I thought perhaps not, these definitely have much more depth to the paint jobs. Top notch stuff, really look forward to seeing this army grow!

Tactical Squad ready.

Infiltrate, Isolate, Destroy.

Direct.

Painted some blackened parts in the drop pod using glazes and an airbrush, to bring out the effect of plummeting through the atmosphere. The meltagun effect I painted by hand. The rest is done the same as before.

Very nice... Raptors always work so well, I don't think I've every seen anyone tackle the scheme and not have it look great. I guess muting the gothicness and pushing the modern military really works! Nice painting!
